Hey guys so here is an update as to what I got going on. I ordered the Prinsu cabrac and and going to swap my DAI for an ARB. Well I just got back from toyota... I had to pay $333 for the new fender and $650 for them to paint it, take my old fender off put the new one on and install the Safari arb. They keep pressing that the paint may not match and it has me pretty stressed out. I could do this work all myself minus the painting but I have ankle surgery next week and will be out of commission for awhile. I'm pretty upset about it but i need the DAI off my truck. The ARB will be put on in the beginning of next week so I'll keep yall updated and post pics..

Please dont remind me how stupid this is cause I'm kicking my own ass right now over this Desert Air Intake swap.. Thank you Toyota for creating a product that doesnt work with any roof accessories!

Do you have any pictures of the DAI head by the roof? I would be interested to see how it is aligned

So the intake hole for the arb is further forward than the DAI and the holes would over lap were going to try but I don't think it's going to happen with the existing holes.

Oh wow they really didn’t think about roof racks at all when designing that. Good luck, and I look forward to seeing your solution

No they didn't and thank you. I'm sure you've read in the thread what I plan to do but again I'm worried about the paint not matching up. My solution to that... In time once I've rebuilt my man stuff funds I may vinyl wrap my truck. I've thought about this since I've bought my truck to either go concrete grey or a more natural color so I would be able to blend in with the forest

Thanks man, talk about a headache. Once this is done I'm excited to start posting more progressive stuff on my build I've got alot of stuff coming in and will be arriving towards the end of December and throughout January.

Means subscribed. I want to get post alerts. I’m following this thread now.

I like your build. That breather mod is great. I think I wanna do it. I’d love a step by step write up

    Nice build!
Wow I didn’t realize the DAI goes that far back into the roof rack bolt mount. Toyota really dropped the ball on that one

    Just an idea....
why not keep the whole snorkel, and cut it off 8” down from the top. Configure a new “head” and it will sit at the windshield line and now you can use any roof rack without interference issues.
Besides sitting up too high, the body and fender fitment on the DAI isn’t bad at all IMO.

I agree but I just don't have the resources in my area.. We dont have a single off road fabrication shop in my area that I could go to for anything. We have a 4x4 shop with a horrible reputation so I'm on my own for any fabrication work. I've thought about cutting it like you said but I'm worried I'd botch it. I'm switching it with the arb and may do a good dude move and send the DAI to prinsu for them to use in developing a new rack for those with the same issues I'm having. I'm all about helping the community in any way I can and I'd be more than happy to let them use it in developing a new product.

It’s a good idea and I actually thought the same but that’s the only mounting point for the upper part of the snorkel. If you remove that you’d have nothing to attach it to. He’d have to come up with a new “head” that would also be able to be attached to the windshield pillar.

If you want to help the community, leave the DAI on and set the prinsu up there to see how bad it interferes. It may be an easier solution than you think to make the two work. I’m honestly thinking you could just notch out the side rail and use the prinsu bolts through both the rack mount and the DAI mount. Might have to use spacers on the other side as well if it makes it stick up higher on the passenger side.

I understand. But it would be pretty easy to fab a bracket to attatch to the roof rack.(that’s why I did)

After looking at the picture above from the OP. It looks like the snorkel is sitting outside the rain channel(with the bracket bending over and into the stock rack threads) so a roof rack like the prinsu might work with little modification, you would just need to remove the bracket and bolt the head right to the sides of rack. This is just speculation from pictures though.

It would be a close fit, and looks like it would take some modification on my rocky mountain racks roof rack. For reference, I have an ARB snorkel. This rack design might work better with the DAI because the mounting feet go inward from the tracks to the crossbars, giving your snorkel more room than the Prinsu design with the side plate bent in towards the track. With this rack it looks like you might even be able to get away with just notching the side plate, because the nearest cross bar is directly above the mounting holes in the roof, which appear to be rearward of the DAI itself. But there is also a risk that the DAI would interfere with the rack across the entire height of the side plate, in which case a simple notch would not suffice.45277808054_15f53ee3eb_o.jpg 32131162918_43026efc88_o.jpg 45277808334_76505fa400_o.jpg

That could work, there’s already bolt holes in the DAI so a simple bracket could be all that’s needed. It all depends how far the DAI sticks out compared to where the prinsu sits.

Well I just now read that you have already ordered the Prinsu rack, so the info on the Rocky Mountain rack is likely not going to be very helpful, sorry about that
