2016/AT but same here, I just opted for the tune for the
    extra power.

Previous vehicles were all v8 trucks, excluding the last few which
were tacos, last one was the 2011 I traded in on this one.

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, SOS rear bumper, SOS skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
Place in bed of truck and ratchet strap them down.

    Problem solved.

2019 is still just a 3rd gen. My truck drives perfectly fine for my liking. I’m sure some would say the shifting is a little sluggish but doesn’t bother me.

However, sometimes when I’m breaking lightly to a stop I get a bad clunk from the rear when it shifts from 3rd to 2nd I believe. Been meaning to get it checked out.

I don't know, but my 2018 A/T sucks, I just drove from Tampa FL to Savannah GA and the shifting sucks, Cruise control stuck on 4th gear all the time, found my self using the sport mode to get up to 6th gear.
My truck just turned 3k miles. I don't remember my 16 begin that rough with down shifting or when trying to pass a vehicle making agressive shifting, what I remember is that I was told, the transmission have to adapt to my driving style? Unless they do something or reprogram the transmission I don't expect any difference/change between 18 and 19 models.

Yeah that learning thing is definitely real. My shifting was all over the place when it was new. It’s gotten better, but hoping it improves more. At 6k miles.

keep the 2010 pre runner, if u need to get moral support from unknown people online to buy a new truck than your better off keeping the one u already have and save yourself money and grief if it doesn't work out

Maybe it’s low on transmission fluid?

I have the automatic 17..highway and 4hi isn’t that bad since I have been learning to drive an auto..it is definitely not my dad’s manual ‘87 4Runner or my deceased 2000 sr5 manual I had since brand new..
4lo is my real beef with the tranny. Seems to over rev then lunge some. I use sport mode offroad on the trails with the hills and rocks.

sport mode by itself won't force it into 6th gear. the sport mode doesn't use a learned shifting pattern, it's preset. when you set it to s6, you are setting the highest gear it can go into, but if the conditions for the shift pattern don't warrant the truck needing to shift into the higher gear, it won't. you cannot force it to be in a higher gear.

Well that's the whole point , it goes all the way to 6th gear (other wise the display will show 5th or even 4th) stays on 6th. I can feel doing the change, I can feel the RPM difference between 4th gear and 6th gear going 80 mph. even If I use the eco display the change in MPG is drastically different when I do the change.

Agreed, but I doubt they are different anyway.

Answering for an '18 should work fine.

    My saga:

Test drove 3 2018s, thought they were so damn underpowered/shifted poorly. Highway was tiring as it felt out of breath at 60mph+
Test drove 2019s, much better, I bought one.

Now, I think they shift fine. What is "different" is that I can actually feel the changeover from Atkinsson to Otto when I give it half or more throttle. I still enjoy the truck.

Came from a 2004 2.4 automatic to a 3.5 v6. From all the post on here I was expecting to have to floor it everywhere I go but that’s not the case. Can easily get up to speed when you put your foot into it and then cruises at 1500 rpms. Great for fuel economy. Just drove from Sf to Santa Cruz on highway 1 and got 24 mpgs going 60 mph.

If they aren’t different it would mean Toyota doesn’t believe the TSB is part of continuous improvement.

The 2019 should be different from the 2018 if they are integrating TSB’s at the factory. Assuming of course the TSB actually fixes something. It doesn’t look like the shifting has been fixed yet.

Just not enough owners to ask. Instead, 2018 owners sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong.

I just picked up a 19 last week and the shifting needs improvement for sure. Doesn't bother me too much though because I never really need to punch it.

2018 here, honestly I dont have any issues or at least it doesn't really bother me. But I have been keeping my truck in S4 while city driving and S5 on the highway lately after doing some reading on here and I like the way it drives while in those modes better.

I disagree, I choose when to shift among 3 alternatives with my AT: Drive, S, or ECT, they all shift on demand with my right foot or automatically...never a problem, no need for a clutch. I drove stick for many years, but this trans is perfect and my wife can drive it!
