No one wants to see OSU in the playoffs. Let's be honest, they're awful. (And just to be clear, we were even worse on Saturday ). While they showed up on Saturday,and played their best game of the year you can't only look good in your last regular season game and expect that you deserve to be in. Blown out by Purdue, and a lucky win at MD. It'll be Bama, Clemson, ND, and OU. The only plot twist is if Georgia beats Bama...

 

I agree, I don't want to see OSU in, but that doesn't mean Bama deserves it over them. The discussion is about the way the committee chooses, which doesn't take into account "deserves" as we've seen in past years.

I agree on your 4. If Georgia wins I think it should be Clemson, ND, Georgia, and OU.

 

I feel that how the committee chooses is flawed. I feel like it's more about who brings the most money and will put on a better show. I'd love to see an 8 team playoff. Give all those bubble teams like UCF a shot. Frankly I'm tired of seeing Bama and Clemson every year.

For me, I'll just stick with what us M fans always say..."there's always next year".

but per the committee criteria, that does not matter. I also just don't agree with rematches at all. No, not because LSU lost to Bama in 2011. I think they're just pointless, it only proves 1-1 at best.

by that logic, if Alabama loses to Georgia this weekend, WHEN IT MATTERS MOST, then Bama is not best. plain and simple.

 

But if they meet up again in the playoffs and Bama beats them....THEN they win when it matters most....

I did finally find one bama fan here in the office, he came to discuss football a little today, and he agreed and understands. maybe y'all need to hang out with him lol

 

We’ve been better than Texas since 2014 in the Big 12 in both sports. Maybe it’ll get better for Texas, but we both know that’s not true due to the crippling expectations of their fan base (still laughing about driving out Brown).

Most of the time, you make a lot of sense. I dunno if you stopped eating your Wheaties recently but, you've kind of folded your own arguments in on themselves.


For the record. I still stand by "if you dont win your conference, you cant go to the playoff". It just makes sense to me and keeps importance on conference championship games. That said, it makes it harder for independents to get in, which may hurt the quality of the playoffs.

You keep referencing the selection committee's "criteria" but seem to have your own blinders on to the fact that the selection committee seems to throw those criteria out when the situations get harder/muddier.

They've rarely stuck strictly to the criteria and typically use the "eye test" and opinion based subjectivity for much more than a lot of people would like.

 

maybe everyone else should field a team that can keep bama and clemson out of the NC game? why should an inferior team like UCF, who plays no one, get placed ahead of bama? all of the people clamoring for UCF to get in say some big teams need to schedule UCF, but they are the same people that say the big name schools play cupcakes. UCF is a flash in the pan just like boise state was a few years ago.

i'm not against an 8 team playoff. actual bracketed playoffs work in every other league of football. sometimes the best team isn't going to be undefeated... and sometimes the undefeated teams aren't the best teams. i don't think that anyone can argue about who the best team is this year. bama is an absolute juggernaut. anyone who says "we want bama" is full of it. no one wants bama this year.

Haven't decided yet. Have a few of our group tailgating but not the whole crew, and with the rain we may opt to stay inside as much as possible. Probably grab food at dantannas or Mccormicks and then play by ear, maybe hit up Park Bar and the 680 the fan tailgate.

I haven't folded on any of my arguments. My argument from the beginning is that the criteria set by the committee needs to be followed, that they don't, that that's wrong, that Alabama with a loss doesn't deserve to be in over OU or OSU with wins, per criteria.

It bothers y'all so bad that it's Bama in the convo for some reason....I'd use the exact same argument if it was anybody else, but it's not. It always ends up being Bama because they're always the exalted. I mean do you see me mad that LSU isn't in the running? no. do you see me bothered nobody mentions them and that they have the #1 SOS and should be looked at more than they are? no. they didn't win their games, they don't win the committee criteria, they shouldn't be considered. period. bama fans cannot deal with the fact that the criteria goes against selecting them sometimes, they just think they deserve it because of who they are. it's stupid.

 

Mac Brown to UNC?

Not sure he'll be as successful there in terms of playoff and NCAA Football.

He may successfully help some kids grow up though.

 

You're literally saying OSU should get in with a loss to Purdue (blow out) over Bama with a loss to the #4 or #5 team in the country while Bama has a harder SOS. While also saying that Bama is the better team. Then you're saying LSU should get more love because of their SOS.

That is folding in your own arguments. The committee has said multiple times that their job is to get the best 4 teams into the playoffs.

 

I never said they should be ahead of Bama. I was simply mentioning them as an example regarding a playoff with more than four teams.
