I got a random Carfax History report by email that shows the current mileage of my truck that is only off by a few miles. My truck hasn't been in for service for several months and my driving is pretty random so it isn't like they could guess the mileage. I'm trying to figure out how they are able to track my driving and what else they are collecting. Guessing that somewhere in the million lines on the contract I agreed to allow them to capture this information. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe the free fuelly app is providing info.

The upside is that I get free Carfax reports on my truck for as long as I own it.

Why is getting a carfax on the regular on a vehicle you already own an upside?

    Yes, Big Brother IS watching.

Look at your Owner's Manual. In my case (2017) it's page 9:

Last time I was at my dealer for any service I had about 12,000 miles on my truck and I received a email from Carfax with correct mileage on it. I just received one now with my updated mileage of 14,890. They must be watching or are extremely good at guessing mileage because it was only a few miles off.

theres been talk in different states about Taxing drivers on the amount of miles driven, I would imagine all this stored Data can be used to calculate the amount of money you will owe to the state if this legistration goes thru

Is your average yearly miles random?

They are probably spitting out a report based on an algorithm.

Why do you want a Carfax on a car you already own?
I want as little information about me and my truck out there as possible.

no, this is an additional tax idea to garner more money, gas tax would be separate from this, based on how many miles u drive

I'd guess that they are much better at estimating your mileage than you give them credit for. Or they just got lucky this time.
