So it is slick here. Really slick. Not a lot of snow, maybe 4-6", but as it fell it got colder and now at 18 degrees F, it's slick.
Tonight, on the way to dinner, I just did a little experimentation with VSC.
Of course in 4HI it did very well with not much slip. Oh, I have Cooper AT3's so it does much better than stock tires.
Now, in 2WD, that is what I was most curious about, chiefly because several people have posted that "it really spins and slides" and that was what I wanted to test.
Accelerating from stop in 2WD: With VSC on, you get no spin. You will get your throttle cut if you are not careful, but on slick roads in 2WD with VSC on, you won't get any real spin. With VSC off, you can spin for days.
Next, I tried to accelerate going from first to second, to get the rear end to break loose and fish tail. With VSC on, you get a bit of a noise, throttle gets cut and you don't break loose. I tried multiple times and it just says nononono and you cannot break it loose with VSC on.
Next was powering through a turn trying to get front end push. Sorry, won't happen when you are on the gas with VSC on. It definitely will keep you in your lane and shiny side up.

In fact, the ONLY way I can get this truck to slide with VSC on is by doing this:
Get going pretty fast, take foot off of accelerator, don't touch the brake and crank the wheel hard. You will then finally slide the thing. It slides because it cannot control what is not there, meaning it can't retard the throttle of there is no throttle and it can't control the brakes if no brake is applied.

So, all you guys who say you are sliding around and spinning in 2WD? You are fibbing.

    Thanks for reading.

Vsc is legit. I always give people the hairy eyeball when they want tss. I’m like... vsc is like a guardian angel that doesn’t interfere with your life. Tss is like Oprah winifred dick punching you anytime you get in the truck. Also, those at3s are solid as fuck on slick stuff, but they were not bro enough for me so I got STT pro, which look beast, but don’t grip anywhere near as good (obviously). My experience with at3s and vsc was that I could not break traction on slippery slushy areas.

Also I don’t want to ruin my credibility with you so stay out of the dumpster fire threads.

Over the Summer I tested that out on my truck, they paved the road and left piles of loose gravel in a sharp off camber turn. Was surprised how quickly the system responded to keep the rear end from coming around.

One push for Auto LSD is nice when it’s really slick and you get throttle cut as soon as you touch the gas. Of course it’s just a lot easier to put it in 4HI at that point but the traction control program works.

I have tried VSC system and it's awesome tech that really works, good job!
Also I use 4WD when slippery to find better traction and but of course I find it lol!

    I wanna talk about VSC
We talk about your work how your boss is a jerk
We talk about your church and your head when it hurts
We talk about the troubles you've been having with your brother
About your daddy and your mother and your crazy ex-lover
We talk about your friends and the places that you've been
We talk about your skin and the dimples on your chin
The polish on your toes and the run in your hose
And God knows we're gonna talk about your clothes
You know talking about you makes me smile
    But every once in awhile
I want to talk about VSC!

Not disagreeing with your results, because I am sure that is exactly what you experienced. Just want to say that my truck will definitely fire off brakes all by itself when it detects what it believes is skidding even with no foot on the brakes on a bench test.

Not saying it won't skid in the process, but just that VSC will apply brakes even if you are not on gas or brake to try to prevent skid (on my truck on OR auto at least).

(Test was part of traction control testing, and goal was to verify VSC operation active to the dash indications at various speeds, 4wd cases, and traction control/vsc settings. Per my memory without looking at notes here is what we found for this particular part of the test. With all 4 tires in the air on jack stands, got the vehicle in 2wd to about 10 mph, then took foot off gas. Promptly input a few degrees of steering input and the truck responded by firing the brakes on the inside of the turn direction. What happened in this case is Truck detected 0 yaw rate but wheels indicated truck was moving and steering wheel said truck should be turning, so it applies brakes to help produce the desired turn.

I didnt get really much test data, the truck threw a yaw rate sensor failure code after about 10 seconds of actual test (because it saw 0 yaw rate for too long and assumed the sensor had failed), so I didnt do a full test series for this condition with techstream etc, just a single test point.)

Edit: link, but this was just in the midst of traction control testing, so pretty horrible thread to read.

If you hold it down it will turn it off and then you can burn donuts. One push is better when it's slick, with the auto LSD.

Yeah VSC is great. But refresh my memory; is there a stability control feature that works WITHOUT the throttle on? Besides ABS I mean.

In my real world application, no. Those are really the only two options the truck has, braking and throttle.

Had a good snow fall, followed by freezing rain. This essentially turned the roads into skating rinks. VSC kept me out of the ditch twice. I have spun out in rear wheel drives before, and I know that sensation of sliding out of control, even with corrective steering. First instance, missed my turn due to poor visibility, and tapped the brakes. Truck fish tailed toward the ditch. Immediately took my foot off the brake, and I steered into it to straighten out. VSC helped me stop the slide almost immediately. Second instance, lost traction on sheer ice while going about 30 kph. Wasn't turning or braking, just started sliding. Steered into the slide, and VSC straightened it out without issue. I know from past experience without the braking of VSC, I would have been in the ditch in either case.
