Here's a SOS stat. According to the CF Playoff rankings the top 6 teams have played/will play the following ranked teams as of Week 14
Bama - 5 - UGA, LSU, MSU, TAMU, MIZZOU
Clemson - 2 - TAMU, CUSE
ND - MICH, CUSE
UGA - BAMA, LSU, UF, UK
OK - TX, WVU, ISU
OSU - MICH, PSU, NW


If Bama hasn't played anybody........

 

ranking isn't the only thing that plays into SOS. all the stats (defense/offense/st) are taken into account too to determine SOS.

you're thinking SOR, Strength of Record.

 

these discussions are funny to me. if Bama wins they're in, plain and simple, but the fans are trying to argue if they lose they're still the best

 

SOS is kind of dumb because you can have 2 top 5 ranked team in away games that makes your schedule look really strong but have 10 cup cakes and you may lose those 2 tough games that made your schedule strong and still finish 10-2 with A high SOS because of the teams you lost to...winnings against bowl eligible teams should be taken into consideration way before SOS imo

 

I don't disagree, but that's not how it is.

Again, the committee should change their criteria, or expand the playoff.

 

Or both... But as broken as the system is most people (minus a few lsu fans and all of ucf) agree that the 2 best teams at the time made it in since the playoff has been here. The NC has been a down to the wire great match up against elite football players... But it is bound to screw up eventually

 

I haven't disagreed that the "eye candy" 2 best teams haven't made it, but I have disagreed each year that the committee isn't following the criteria truly.

You can say teams A & B were the best two, without giving C a shot.
You can say teams B & C were the best two, without giving A a shot.
You can say teams A & C were the best two, without giving B a shot.

on any given day, any given time, any team can beat any team. just give them enough chances. if you keep giving 1 team multiple chances, and other teams 0 chances...it proves nothing.

 

if number 1 loses to number 4, why would number 1 drop below number 4? a loss to the number 4 team in the country will look better than any other single loss team, especially if it's close. now, if it's a blowout, you have a point.

 

because you're playing for #1. you're not playing for #1-4.

if #1 already lost to one of the top 4, why should they get another chance at it? they've proven they can't do it.

 

right now, you are playing for top 4. you aren't playing for number 1.

 

But you've already proven you can beat one of the top 4. Why get another chance?

 

why give anyone a chance that isn't undefeated then? as a self professed lsu fan, you still sound bitter about LSU beating bama in the regular season and then not even being able to cross midfield in the national championship game.

 

Of course I'm bitter, who wouldnt be? Beat bama at home, then they beat you on a neutral field and get to claim to be the best. Makes no sense.

That doesnt matter to the discussion at all. If one team loses to another. Why should they be allowed to play against that team the very next game again?

 

Good grief this discussion does in circles with different folks. Read through the pages for my logic, actual logic. I've already answered all of this...a bunch...

 

you do realize that this same thing could happen even in an expanded playoff scenario, right? it happens in the nfl all the time.

 

Also, is there a different kind of fan than self proclaimed? Do any of you cheer for a team because somebody else claimed that for you?

 

No it couldn't. If you lost to a team one week, you'd be out. You would not still be in the running. If you lose in nfl playoff guess what...you're out.

 

conference championships aren't part of the playoffs.... so throw that argument out.

nfl week 17 can have the same matchup as the first round of the playoffs. the loser of week 17 doesn't miss the playoffs just because they couldn't beat that team that day.


get rid of the emotions and jealousy for bama and pretend it's any other team.... lets pretend it's tamu.. =D


to pass the eye test, number 1 losing to number 4 looks better than ANY team losing to anyone that's not in the top 4.
