Forewarning: these comments are not super helpful.

I have a hard shell and use a hitch mount. On my shell I have racks and on a long trip I used the rack to carry my bike so I wouldn't have to use the hitch mount. The way the shell mounts to the bed rails is so weak that my shell got pushed back by the wind on the bike.

Bellingham has a horrible heroin problem, I'd wager worse than Marysville, which is crazy since Bellingham is a secluded city where as Marysville is an extension of Everett anymore. Bellingham essentially touches the border and derelicts come here from all over the country because a) they are trying to go to alaska but canada won't let them in so here they stay or b) they hear that we have services. But it's as you said, keep voting in the same people and expecting different results.

    Per areavibes.com
    Property crime per 100k people
    Marysville: 2811
Bellingham: 5515....... DOUBLE marysville. Compounded by the issue that our jail is too old and small and that police routinely can't book people into jail, even people with multiple warrants for their arrest.

Last weekends trip to Sedona from San Diego. Getting, "Sandy" dialed in for a circumnavigation trip of the Baja peninsula this December.

Schnebly road campsite above Sendona, AZ.

Well I stand corrected. I guess that makes sense, being a border town.

    Interesting to note.

Years ago... decades ago.... i used a rack on top of the cap on a truck, to hold my bikes.
Worked fine, but, 20+ years later, the thought of climbing up there and mounting a bike... PLUS low hanging obstructions ruled that out.
And rear mount, besides cumbersome, blah blah, removing the plate, and relocating every time i wanna ride,.. nope.
    Yes, ive been stopped. 2x...

    Eithey way thanks
Yeah, I like both thr Prinsu, and Dissent racks, but, neither is compatible, with the other...
Dissent is nice, stand alone, with a softopper, or tonnaue...
Prinsu works as stand alone, or with a shell.

Unfortunately, i need to maintain the utility of the truck, WHILE wheeling it, and shuttling toys...

Thankfully, I have a service van to minimize things like mileage....

    Thanks for the input

I rode a 2017 111 for a little bit, love that bike. Super capable and light on its feet.

If your 1up rack is coming loose you likely need to replace the pin that pushes on the ball bearing. They will send you one for free. It’s not super uncommon. It’s likely from over tightening (ask me how I know). You can back out the bolt that pushes it all the way out, then pull the gold pin out and inspect the tip.

within 30 minutes of eastside (Bellevue/redmond/fallcity)… Grand Ridge, Tiger Mountain, Ollalie, Raging River, Duthie, Told McDonald, …

within 90 minutes.... some of the most amazing rides in the Rainier forest like Noble Knob and Sun Top.

go south towards Olympia... tons of riding in the Capital forest area.

and 4-5 hours north, best mountain bike park in North America - Whistler.

I bought a 16 DL frame from pinkbike and made the conversion to 27.5. Then I found a practically brand new 17 for next to nothing again on pb, sold the 16, swapped all my stuff over to the 17 and ended with practically a new bike.....Even though it’s on 2.8’s it’s so nimble and agile, it feels like it’s on a much thinner tire.....not a mid fat at all.......love it

Interesting to read about the PNW. In Santa Cruz, our crime rate (per the same areavibes.com site) is about 15% higher than Bellingham. Our median home price is over $900K, sales tax is 10% plus high state income taxes. Now, I can ride wonderful single-track from my house, but most of that is illegal ... and yes, lots of hobo camps and associated trash, needles, bike thefts etc. No motor vehicle legal dirt beyond a few short unpaved roads, within 100-150 miles. But the weather is good ...

Thinking of coming down and riding Galbraith this weekend, anyone know what the trail conditions are like after all this rain?

Nice move, the longer reach of the 17 makes it a much more capable bike. and the colour is a little better too :p

Hollister is less than fifty miles away from you.

I mean, as a bay area guy I feel you for lack of dirt to drive on but there's not nothing.

Because of all those California transplants.;)

Now is the best time of the year to ride here. Nobody on the trails and trails are well maintained. Grand Ridge used to have stretches of muddy trails (which I personally liked).

Seattle has a lot of good riding in the area. The downside is from Bellingham, most other riding spots are gonna be a drive, especially with traffic. Issaquah is an 1:45 from Bellingham in open flow. I second Tiger Mountain, Duthie, Olallie.

    upload_2018-11-28_13-32-28.jpg

There is a little mini bike park park under the I-5 in downtown Seattle called Colonnade, but I heard it went to seed when all the homeless people crept in, and hasn't really been cared for as much as it should. Sounds like EMBA is working with REI and the city to get it looked after though.
