What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

If it is the air box or tube just laying your hand on them will sometimes make the tone, pitch change, if it does your problem is there. Just look and listen.

 

First off...don't say shit like that either haha

there ARE vacuum lines to the PS pump BUT only on the early tacomas and maybe first 2 years of 4runners(don't really know the 4runner one). So while yours doesn't, there are ones with vac lines. Consider yourself lucky you have a vac free one.

there are plenty of lines that can leak that won't cause idle issues. Sadly its also a bitch to find the problem...so again, consider yourself lucky in the fact you have the version of 5vz that is dumbed down on vac lines a lot haha

 

Supposed to be "Vacuum assisted" lol More like a pita and more shit run to places to cause more problems.

 

They are better in many ways

Did some preventative maintenance on the frame.Didn't remember to take pics b4 hand.But in the pics of the cross member you can see the treated areas and not treated.
Very impressed with the results.

 

I feel sorry for you guys that have to deal with this.

Are Dakar leaf packs known for squeaking? Im sick of fighting the squeak with my current leafs.

 

yes.... yes they are

I would put greaseable bolts through the shackle and main eye if you are to run them. Mine would only be quiet after hitting them with a high powered hose but would start up again after a few days. I didn't run the greaseable bolts though

 

Interesting. Would these boots be the same across Manual and ADD CV’s?

My Manual Hub CV’s could use some new boots pretty soon.

We know you probably didn’t rip them so they must be getting roasted by the Cali heat and covered in dry rot?

 

Rubber will dry rot and paint will fade and peel before rust happens. My truck only had 60,000 miles when the clear coat started to fail.

And no I didn’t rip them. However, they are used 20 year old CV axles with an unknown history and I’d like to service them one day.

 

So is it just the bushings or the leafs themselves? I'm fighting the leafs themselves right now. The liners I put in ripped once I wheeled it.

I want to say it’s a mix of both. I heard from the PO that the AllPro leafs I have squeaked like crazy. I believe it’s an issue on all aftermarket springs.

I bought greaseable shackles and main eye bolts to alleviate it. Haven’t had an issue since.

I heard there’s these I want to say Teflon shims you place in between the leafs that is supposed to help with squeaking.

I don’t notice squeaking in the cab, but if you hold onto the tailgate or the bed and start violently and purposely shaking it, you’ll hear squeaking.

 

yeah that's a good point, I think it was both honestly. I didn't run the liners either because I heard that they like to fall out when the leafs flex and what not.

My All Pros aren't exactly quiet either...I think leaf springs are just going to make some degree of noise no matter what if you have them in conditions with a lot of dirt, mud, sand, etc.

But I do know that the Dakars were the worst for me as far as squeaking goes. Funny enough, the most quiet setup I had was my original setup - stock leafs plus a 3 leaf AAL pack. That setup rarely ever made a peep.

 

Well, at the moment nothing is wrong with them. Same goes for my LBJ’s but I’m replacing them anyway. Preventative maintenance is all.

With OEM LBJ’s I should add.

Sounds like I may just deal with it if it doesnt get worse.
