Very nice writeup and I love the Currie 9" Axle. Big money, but big reward. I have a set of Currie Rock Jock D60's on my jeep. I beat the crap out of it on the rocks and have never broken anything.

Just read the whole thread. Definitely a good solution the our rear diff problem, although also not cheap.

I"m wondering if the 3rd gen 8.75 rear diff would be another option for those looking to upgrade while spending a little less money and a more direct bolt in. I'm guessing it would be a direct, or pretty close to direct, swap. Next time I blow a ring and pinion I might find out

But you could be an active participant. I'm already thinking that 9" would be awesome in my truck. Just about the time I think I'm done, somebody charts a new course and I have to have it!

Sorry for the thread revival. I contacted Currie about their Ford 9in built specifically for Tacomas. They said they no longer build these and that I could order a custom Ford 9in from them, but it will have no Toyota parts on it.

I'm doing long travel with trailing arms and eventually I might do an LS swap. I want to upgrade the axle if I'm going to all this trouble, but it seems I missed the boat with Currie. Does anyone else make a Ford 9in that solves the magnetic bearing speed sensor and ABS issues like Currie did previously? Or does anyone know what Currie was doing to solve those issues?

    Thanks guys!

Im using a land cruiser fzj80 rear axle with the 9.5" diff in my first gen. The offset hasnt been a problem and the ABS is plug and play. Also you should contact Diamond Axle if you want something custom using Toyota stuff.

I deleted the ABS on my (recently sold) FZJ80. I wish you all the luck with that system! But thank you so much for the lead, I'm going to reach out to Diamond right now. Looks like they can do exactly what I need! I'll report back. Thank you!!

I don’t know much about axles and how it compares to the one in this thread, but here’s a beefy replacement.

If you deleted the abs then why not just build a regular 9 in with 60 ends that are 6x5.5? Trail gear, spidertrax, fourwheelsupply, currie and lots more all offer 6x5.5 unit bearing hubs and brakes and solid axle industry and nitro gear offer 6x5.5 hubs meant for a spindle.

Man, that Currie setup is sweet. No way in Hell you'll ever break that.

It's too bad that Currie quit making this, but here's my thoughts on how to do this on the "cheap". Still going to be slightly expensive, but nowhere near what the Currie setup probably sold for.

Get a 1978ish F150 rear axle. Go to a place that narrows axle housings. Have them cut off the Toyota ends off your stock axle and weld them on the 9" at what ever width you want. They may have to make Toyota pucks for their alignment bar. Then go to a place that makes custom chromoly axle shafts and have them make Tacoma axles with Ford 9" splines. The 1978ish F150 is 31 spline. Although you could go to 35 spline, there is no way any motor that will fit in a Tacoma is going to shear a 31 spline chromoly axle shaft.

Good luck finding that f150 axle. Every place out west has been picked clean for years since desert racing took off.
