This, with a step of cleaning with mild dish soap between the WD40 and Polish to remove the oil residue.
The polish will remove marring from your rag.

Acrysol adhesive remover. It is specifically made for that purpose. However you have to find a local shop to buy it. It is so volatile that shipping it is extremely expensive.

i love the clean look on most of my cars, so i use goo gone, wash it with water & soap, then rubbing compound. comes out looking like there was nothing there before or any marks

A furniture polish will often work and won't harm the paint.

Please do not use wet sanding, cutting compounds, furniture polish, gasoline, Goo Gone, terpintine, acetone, or any other asinine reccomendation.

The residual residue should come off gently with a clay bar. If you’ve got just a hint of gunk left you can polish it off.

You can use heat to remove the other one. A hair dryer will do it, if you have a heat gun be gentle and hold it far away.

Again no scrubbing. You want to leave your paint marr free.

I’m tired of people recommending Ultimate Compound every time someone brings up the slightest paint issue.
Cutting compounds are highly abraisive and can quickly lead to irrepairable paint damage if someone inexperienced uses them, especially by machine.
Compounds in the detailing world are reserved for extreme paint oxidation, marring, staining, etching that has occurred over years of neglect and abuse.

Compounds in most cases are also usually not meant to be used as a final step. They are so abraisive they cause marring that needs to be polished out to make optically perfect.

Use the least abraisive method first then slowly work up until you get the desired results.

I just used a high quality bug and tar remover aerosol to do this along with a thick cotton terry cloth. Worked well.

That is why I take mine off the day I buy it. Warm in sun or with hairdryer and peel carefully and only a little residue that WD-40 will take care of.

In case anyone ever reads this later, WD40 was by far the most efficient thing I used. Tried Goo Gone and 70% isopropyl alcohol, neither of them worked as well as regular old WD. Washed and waxed afterward and it looks great!
