Yes, glad it worked out for you! Congrats.

I will still prob never buy another warranty. From my experience you'll never make your money back, on average. It might take 1, 2 or 3 cars, but you'll come out on top taking the cost of the warranty over those vehicles cars and saving it, its highly unlikely they will all have major problems. its a big picture thing. Some like the feeling of being covered, and if you dont mind paying go for it. I have friends who never lifted a wrench and have no problems paying for one. I bought one before, $2,400 wasted, my first new truck, my baby. I will say, the OP said he paid like 6-700 hundred or so, thats a steal. I might have bought that.

and last, man why do people have to rush to be right or prove someone wrong and get all angry about it. thats today's world, shoot first, aim second

I will never understand why people will take their out of warranty vehicle to a dealer for transmission work when there are repeated threads that show:

Toyota Dealers will do nothing to a trans but a drain and refill of fluid or a complete replacement with a brand new transmission.

They DO NOT do diagnostic work on a transmission.

    They do not do rebuilds.

    Get it?

If they sense the slightest thing wrong with the trans they will only recommend replacement EVEN IF its not necessary.

Chances are... its not necessary. Take it to a transmission shop. They will actually tell you what is wrong and how to fix it.

His post was in response to my post about dealers being mainly parts swap mechanics and post # 112...

I rather have a Toyota reman swapped whole vs. someone playing swap tronics inside the transmission. Just ask VW owners that had O1M, 096 and early DSG transmissions that got boned twice. One when VW threw parts at it just to keep it going long enough for the warranty to end and the other because the drain and filter intervals were too long.

There is a huge difference between a good transmission tech and someone just swapping internals I agree. Most dealership techs do not deal with internal transmission issues as it takes too much time to rebuild one properly esp at the rates they charge it would place the repair cost out of bounds for most customers.

I thought the warranty ended at 60k?

Also I’m willing to bet money he probably didn’t need a new trans but if he didn’t pay for the work I guess he wins.

Take it to a tranny shop but trust your gut

Tranny shop diagnosed my transmission with a locked up torque converter and a cracked flex plate.

Dropped the pan, and cleaned out the TCC solenoid. Problems solved.

For those who might have missed my comments in post #105, here's a repeat.

I got my truck back this evening. The dealer loaned me a new Tacoma to drive while they worked on my truck. When I picked my truck up, the "bill" also showed something about the rack and pinion steering. I asked about it and the dealer said they found a leak and replaced it while they were replacing the transmission. The total "bill" was a little over $5,600. I paid zero with my Toyota extended warranty. What a pleasant experience.

    Glad it worked out...
Getting a warranty can pay off especially as they keep adding more electronics...

SpitDog - Yes, the new transmission came with a 24 month (24,000 mile) warranty. And the new rack and pinion steering they put in as well.

At 70K on your vehicle, the transmission and the rack/pinion went out? Seriously? Are you sure you aren't driving a Chevy, or driving like a 17 year old?
