And yet they still have managed to sell almost 200,000 of them annually in each of 2015, 2016, 2017 and will probably again in 2018. Same figures as Tacoma. For all the cash cow Toyota has in the Taco apparently Jeep is making even more money on the Wrangler. I would venture to guess it's also more profit because they sure ain't investing much building them well...

I still have my LJ and I always wanted to do the truck conversion to it. Maybe I need to sell my LJ and Taco and get a Rubi-diesel.

I wonder if F150 buyers will cross shop the Gladiator more than Taco buyers because of ultimate MSRP?

    Yeah.
I like Futile Italian Attempt at Transportation. I used to own a Lancia, also a Fiat product.

I think it looks pretty cool and has some good options, but I wouldn't own one.

For 2019 the only engine is the 2.3 Ecoboost. Who knows, if it really did cost that much to bring it to the U.S. I can't imagine Ford would want to end up selling fewer Rangers than Nissan does Frontiers. I dunno, Tacoma is the high water mark so perhaps they'll be happy selling Colorado/Canyon numbers at 100K annually. But since Ford has also decided to stop making cars and only focus on crossovers, SUVs and trucks seems like they need the Ranger to be competitive in the segment.

I miss that removable top too often and the usable cargo space would be pretty cool, so I may venture my way to CarMax in 6 or 7 years for a used one. I've not owned a recent wrangler, but my 98 was pretty reliable and my dad has had good luck with his 05.

Where do you think all these gladiator sales are going to come from?

Tacomas sell about 20,000 vehicles per month on average in 2018. Assume worst case for Toyota and all gladiator sales come from potential tacoma buyers, to get to 2:1 that means tacoma's sales are going to go from 20k per month to between 6800 per month to get to that 2:1 ratio.

If Tacoma sales don't drop or drop a little, 30-40k Gladiators per month? what? The Wrangler averages about 20k a month sold.

Completely unrelated... What are you willing to bet?

Oh, you're probably right. It won't stop me from pricing them out and drooling until my wife smacks me and says, "Stop it, we're not spending more than 30 on a brand new vehicle."

The Wrangler outsells the Tacoma. Not all of those buyers are real off-roaders.
Jeep will sell the gladiator at a premium price and will sell as many as they can make. They don’t have the capacity to build as many trucks that Toyota does.

I dunno. I guess you'd have to see combined 4Runner + Tacoma (about 300K annually) and compare against that. FCA sold about 80K more Wranglers than Toyota did 4Runners in 2017 so even if Jeep just takes TRD Offroad, Sport and Pro sales it'll be a real thing. But you could argue that Toyota sells a ton of TRD models to people who never go offload, too. So appearance goes a real long way to attracting buyers who want to look tough getting out at the mall and soccer field parking lots.

They don't sell 200,000 wrangler unlimiteds, but the whole wrangler line sells 200k per year. The range of prices for the tacoma and wrangler are pretty much identical (28k-41 for the wrangler, and 25-42 k for the tacoma). I don't think Jeep is making that much more from the wrangler than toyota is from the tacoma.

I don't like that the front is the same front as a wrangler, I like the rear a lot though. If someone put out a kit to make it look more like the original jeep trucks, I'd give it a real hard look for my next truck.

I wanted a Jeep because I love driving manual and being able to take doors & the top off. But, I needed a truck bed, so I got a Tacoma.

Even if the diesel will only be offered in an automatic, I will probably be moving over to that.
