The owners manual agrees with you too. That’s the purpose of the taper, so they can still be used with the steer spare wheel.

had the vibe/pulse as well. I told them "it felt like bad drums" ...they replaced the leaf
packs on both sides, it was still there as soon as I pulled out. I said again, "it's the drums"
they offered to grind them down, I said nope, I just bought a new truck, not a used truck
replace them w/ new, they're new - they did and the issues were 100% gone.

Cannot use "tapered" otherwise know as "Acorn" nuts on 4runner TRD wheels. The 2018 Tacoma OR wheels use the flat seat bus seen in Post 14 and refereced above.

That means your dealer likely is wrong. The bugs in your photo are correct for the TRD wheels from the 4 runner

This is good to know. I'm receiving 4Runner TRD Pro Wheels today and was wondering about this.

Incorrect. For both hub-centric and lug-centric applications, the vehicle's weight is transferred to the wheel by the clamping forces of the lugnuts. The lugnuts essentially bond the wheel to the hub face.

Neither the hub center bore nor the wheel studs bear any appreciable amount of the vehicle's weight.

This is true. You would need to apply roughly 5-6x the weight of the vehicle onto one of the wheels before it would overcome the friction between the wheel and the hub (brake rotor/drum and then hub).

    I stand corrected.

That makes more sense that the hub-centric design is primarily to correctly center the wheel.

Sounds about right... You need the correct nuts for those wheels! They are NOT all the same. Did you research or just assume?
