You speak much truth there, the overall division does give the Patriots more chances to make the playoffs. Scary to think one of the two seasons in the past 15 years they didn't the team was 11-5, huh!

That said, it's also fair to say they still had to win those games. Also, how huge is the lead Brady has over #2 there?

To make the playoffs and lose means nothing, unless you win the end game being the Super Bowl. Everybody puts so much on making the playoffs. The playoffs mean nothing unless you win the last game.

 

Totally different eras.

Montana/Elway/Bradshaw: QBs could actually get hit, head hunting DBs were allowed, points were at a premium
Brady/Brees: QBs cannot get hit, landed upon or otherwise physically touched in any way. DBs cannot touch the receiver after 5 yards nor attempt to decapitate and penalties for such are crazy. Clearly the league wants higher scores, more exciting, points are expected now to attract and retain new viewership. That's fine its just different.

Dont get me wrong, Brady is awesome during this new era but Cool Joe is clearly on top in my book.

Side note: can you imagine what Elway or Montana could do within the new rules today? Scoreboards might break.

Totally agreed. Been watching since the early 80's and I really miss the old style. The NFL has legislated so much of the defense out of the game especially in the past 15 years. Remember the 2003 AFC title game when the Colts receivers got pummeled and then next thing you know they're crying to the rules committee?

You didn't mention this but as well I blame fantasy football for the thought process that points equals entertaining.

Definitely would love to see Elway have had the support he had in the mid 1990s. Always been an Elway fan and have the jersey.

Yeah, I HATE the Broncos but only because they were our rivals and so good (Chiefs). Elway finally got the supporting cast at the end but damn, imagine he or Marino lighting it up today? Like Mahomes or Goff.

Remember the Rams/Bucs NFC title game in 2001? 11-6 was the final. I loved it..

Hell I could have quarterbacked those Broncos to 12-4. Having TD standing next to Elway made his life easier, and the first SB win his numbers weren't that great. Having Rod "The Bod" Smith, Easy Ed McCaffrey and some guy named Shannon Sharpe to catch the ball didn't hurt, nor did Big Bad Bill R on defense.

That said, it's also arguable Brady did something Joe M didn't...do it in the salary cap era. He's never had a great running back except maybe Corey Dillon..and some of those years his WRs were really nothing special either.

You put Brady on any other team they will be contenders! Brady makes players want to be better then they are! Same goes for Montana, Peyton Manning! Winning is the name of the game not personal stats! Don't get me wrong Brees is one of the great ones!
