I haven't seen folks put it over there. It would probably block the radio display if oriented anywhere good for the driver.

At any rate, no matter where you put it, it won't affect the sight line over the hood like a suction cup on the windshield does a bit.

I'd get a pic in the other vent, but I sold the Un-Holey Mount after I installed the DMM. The pic in Post 10 is a lot lower than my eye level. The Hondo and DMM put my phone in nearly the same spot.

@tonered im not sure I understand blocking the radio. The vent is to the right of the display and would give you full visual of the radio from the drivers seat

It depends on the arm, orientation, and height. For me, setting it up there for any sort of hands free use, it would block the head unit screen. This is why I use the left side.

Regardless, either the Hondo or DMM will give you a ton of options for mounts and locations.

Plus not reaching far when hitting Waze alerts or seeing turns on trails needed for me.

I went with a RAM rear view mirror setup and ran an always hot hardwire USB to power the phone or GoPro.

If you just want a normal, unobtrusive mount, then this is a really good one. The guy 3D prints them to hang over the top of the plastic bezel on the dash.

I’ve used the same one since I got my truck and it’s great. Nothing is going to compare to those ram mount contraptions when off-roading though.

I agree with making your own mount... It's easy, cheap, and you can make it work exactly like you want. I used T channel, cut to length, paint body color, 1/4 bolt into the ball mount and used an X-grip. I can add other ball mounts easily.

Edit to add: When bolting to the bezel like I did, I made a small plate underneath to distribute the load and bolted through that.

    That's pretty neat.

I've been good with my Frankenmount for the past couple of years (see my signature), but with a new phone I find the Nillkin case for the XS doesn't quite work how I want. First, I had to remove one of the four magnets in the Xs case because it was f'g with the Xs' compass. The other is I figured out last night the setup wasn't maintaining phone charge while running Waze and streaming music over bluetooth. Said it was charging but battery level was slowly ebbing.

Starting to look into other Qi wireless charging options now.

I might have to go back to the drawing board.
I forgot to mention in the original post.
I have a LG G6 with an UAG case.
The case is not perfectly flat.
I bought a thing that goes in the cig lighter to charge but then has an articulating arm with a magnet mount.
I jb welded the magnet to my case and it broke off x2.
I used a different epoxy. It lasted several months and just broke off again.

I love my Taco Garage DSM. Using a short ram arm and quad lock head it is solid. I also have a 180° USB charging cable (hot glued in place). Works perfectly for me switching Pandora channels, since my head unit doesn't have Android auto.

    A growing list of stuff
Phone mounts are definitely a personal taste thing. I prefer not blocking my view and where I can touch it without even taking my right hand off the wheel
Using a Hondo mount, a PanaVise offset tipper, and the holder that comes with my Supcase Unicorn Beetle for my phone.
