Yeah I personally sleep fine is small spaces. I had the smallest CVT that they made (don't even make it anymore).

If I were you, I'd go with the hard side, sleep in trailer. I have found to really like having hard sides.

I borrowed a friends tacoma with the Decked bed drawer storage system and a tall height camper shell with a mattress pad in there. Was so nice to have the hard sides. Quiet, comfortable, dark.

I'm doing the same down the line now. He sold me on it. You get a mattress pad, roll it up and hook a velcro strap to it against the cab of the truck, load all your shit into the drawer system totes, put your cooler and one tote on top. Show up to camp, take out the cooler and tote and your bed just rolls out.

    Like this sleeping set up

    But with this system:

Only problem for me sleeping in the 4Runner would be my fridge.
I’ve got two drawers plus a cubby over the passenger side wheel well so plenty of storage for tools, spare parts, compressor, etc. but the fridge doesn’t exactly fit and I’m not leaving that outside. I need sleeping for two, too, and I don’t want to have to move my fridge to the front seat because that’s a heavy bitch when loaded.
I saw a 5x7 enclosed trailer build to off-road expo trailer on here and expo-portal and really really liked that idea. Plus I can very easily use it as I build it.

Having a trailer would be so nice. I have had 2 RTT’s and it’s a love hate relationship for sure. They’re nice if you’re actually overlanding and camping somewhere new every night but suck if you’re just a wheeler and stay in one park the whole time.

It sucks having to set up every night and put down every morning. Especially if you need to make a supplies run.

Another con is if your rig breaks while wheeling, your tent is wherever the broken rig is.

Then again having a trailer can probably be a pain to drag along if you have to take it down trails.

The ground tent is always easy and simple just have to make sure you have a good mattress and sleeping bag for it.

I’m on the fence just like y’all on what to do with the runner now. Not sure if I want to try another RTT since the runner would be an exploring rig or if I want to stick with old reliable.

20181126_080247.jpg the brown dot is a snapped bolt. On front skid. P/o must have done it. I think he lived near the beach. Any advise for getting that SOB out? I plan to remove this skid and touch it up with some paint

The only reason I won’t put one on the 4Runner is because I’m already tippy as shit. Tacoma’s are nice because you don’t have as much weight up top because of the bed. And if you do have an rtt, you can do it on lower bed bars to keep your COG down.
Some people don’t mind having the rtt on top of 4Runners but for me, it’d be too much weight up high that would bring my COG that much higher

X2 my thoughts exactly. I would rather have those retired military trailers to put the RTT on instead. The 5th gens are already top heavy as is.

Yeah trailers have their limits, not saying it's a fix all both a alternative to a top heavy vehicle.

its just recently. Only on cold start ups, squeals a bit until its warmed up. Could be a pulley or my acc belt got some trans fluid on it when i swapped radiators

Fiancé/wife will be getting the 5th gen in April when we move. Soooo I’m picking up a 3rd gen this weekend for my new daily/wheeler.

These 4runners are fucking sweet. Love em more than the Tacoma and tundra I had.

I daily and wheel the shit out of mine when it's not in the garage getting worked on. For that combo it's hard to beat a 3rd gen. Not many dual cased rigs on 35's will also hold 80 MPH on the highway straight as an arrow with minimal vibration. DO it once, do it right and have a super reliable rig.

Got a squeak coming from the driver side after doing the icon stage 2, 3 weeks ago. I’m going crazy trying to track it down lol. Inserted zerks and put grease in the UCA bushings and delta joint until grease came out the sides. Still got a squeak. I’m about to tear this thing apart looking for it lmao
