Sway Bar Relocation Kit Question

Hey Everyone,

When I was lifting my truck, I decided to leave the sway bar in. Everything seems to be working OK (however when I articulate the passenger side up a bank I seem to get a minor tension creak... but that might just be new stuff breaking-in or was there from the get-go and I never realized it). Anyways, whats the deal with sway bar relocation kits on third gens? Would I benefit getting one if I'm not having any issues so far? I'm going back to have shims installed next week and wondering if I should install a relocation kit while I'm there.

I have 6112s set at the 5/6 notch.

 

Lose the sway bar. You don't need it.

 

I only want it because I drive a lot of road. With that said, how do you know if you need the relocation kit or not?

 

Do they make quick discos like they do for jeeps. Seems would make more sense

I daily mine without the sway bar and it's fine. Upgraded suspension generally negates the need for the sway bar.

 

No, because the design of our sway bars leaves no room to keep it out of the way.

 

On road, I have never noticed it being gone. Off road, it makes a world of difference not being there.

 

Is there a way to know if the sway bar is interfering? The very slight creak I hear I'm thinking isn't related.

 

If youre wheeling and it still wont flex even with a lift, it is interfering.

 

If you are lifted, there is likely tension on the swaybar and causing it to over-rotate in the bushings.

What about longer sway bar links, or flex links. I come from solid axles and the setup was just better and easier for offroad. So just using what I know from that.

 

Yes. Just pull the sway bar and take it for a drive and see how you like it and if the creak is still there.

If the creak is still there, I'd just chalk it up to new suspension/leafs breaking in. I was going to fluid film everything too.

 

Could be LCA bushings, UCA bushings, leaf springs, etc. Pull the sway bar first and start from there.

 

All easy fixes on a new truck I'd imagine? Like lube?

 

I guess, my truck squeaks like a bitch but IDGAF because I beat the shit out of mine on the rocks and the underside of my truck has a protective coating of Georgia red clay that probably causes the squeaks. If you wheel your truck, there will be squeaks. Dirt and mud get into nooks and crannies and cause squeaks. There's no way around it.

Sway bar relocation kits are meant to move the swaybar forward slightly (about 3/4"). Most commonly used when you move to a coilover because the overall diameter of the new coil is larger than stock so the swaybar makes contact with the lower coils. Check to see if you're having contact there first. The added lift is also now making the swaybar operate outside of it's original design. Swaybar relocates address this by acting as a spacer as well- dropping the mounting location by about 3/4". If there is no contact between the swaybar and the springs, then the squeak could very well be coming from the rubber bushing at the sway bar mount. You can unbolt it and add grease to the inner and outer surfaces of the bushing and that should help.
