Distorted drivers side side mirror?

I purchased my Tacoma about 2 and a half weeks ago and it seems that my drivers side side mirror may be distorted as my eyes seem to have a hard time adjusting to it and makes them hurt, like the feeling when you get a new pair of glasses. I gave it some time thinking my eyes would eventually adjust to it but it doesn't seem to get any better. Has anyone else had this issue? I also noticed that my drivers side mirror doesn't have a sticker on the bottom that says 'Objects may seem closer than they appear' but my passenger side does. Could it possibly be an aftermarket side mirror they put on?

    I almost posted about this!

I don't know if it's the shape of the Tacoma but when I try to reverse park and check the side mirrors, it always appears that I'm a bit crooked. But checking the camera everything looks okay and verified when I actually come out and check.

The thing that has me thinking it might be normal is that both mirrors appear to have the same type of crookedness.

And if I recall whenever I park my wife's car, I always have the same issue where it doesn't appear that it's in straight but actually is.

And noticed how cars appear distorted in the drivers side mirror in the Tacoma as well.

When I searched about this, I found this post (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/driver-side-mirror-distortion.292568/) from a while ago where it looks like the dealer verified and replaced the mirror.

But other then that, if you look at the Google suggestions when you type in the search there will be suggestions about concave (convex?) mirrors.

So am not sure if this is normal and a feature of new cars now.

So far I haven't noticed this problem. However I do notice that the mirror and the camera seem a little bit out of alignment.

I guess one thing that might be worth noting is that based off the sticker it looks like my truck was originally delivered to the Toyota dealership in Howard County MD. Which might not be too far from where you got your truck if you're in Baltimore. So hopefully our trucks weren't part of a bad run or anything.

There were some other posts on other forums or sites about the mirrors possibly being on loose or not put on properly.

Either way probably wouldn't hurt to ask the dealership about it when bringing in the truck for the complimentary service.

Also I'm not sure the level of distortions we're talking about. I think most of the time the view in the mirror looks okay. I think I notice it most when I'm going around a bend or curve and look at the car next to me. Which is when I first noticed it and it was pretty bad/surprising. At similar angles, if I look at another spot of the mirror the image looks pretty clear. Which is why I think there is a curve to the mirror and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that way. If yours is really bad, maybe try to adjust it so that you get that "good spot" of the mirror in your primary view.

I also have this problem on my new '19. Not the biggest deal, but it is a weird sensation for sure. I'm in Georgia FWIW.

I was thinking of this same issue this morning when I used the rear defrost to melt the thin layer on them. As I was waiting with my daughter at the bus stop, it appeared the driver's side mirror had developed a "halo" style crack in the center of the mirror......as I was adjusting the vent closest to the DS window, the crack "disappeared".......As it turned out it was a reflection of the trim ring from the vent, on the inside of the window, that I was seeing in the side view mirror. Just a weird temporary occurrence, if the sun was higher/lower or I had parked in a slightly different spot, it probably wouldn't have occurred. Hope it's just something minor - Bill in MA

    lol nah.

    Barcelona Red.

Kind of funny story. I saw this truck on the Antwerpen Toyota website a little while back and was kind of drooling over it and seriously considering checking it out.

Later on when I looked again saw it wasn't listed anymore. So figured it was sold. Was kind of disappointed but figured it was for the best because didn't want/need a new vehicle at the time.

When I finally decided to check out my local Toyota dealer last week to test drive the Tacoma and RAV4 was surprised to see this truck on their lot.

Guess they did a dealer trade or something for it.

Glad I didn't claim the truck you wanted lol.

Drives me crazy. My driver side mirror is like this aswell but I havnt had a chance to bring it in to get looked at. If you look into the mirror your eyes will ache just as if you had put on someones prescription glasses

I’ve got a 2018 with the same problem. The mirror has a distortion. It’s worse in the upper half of the mirror and really bad in the top right corner of the mirror. It appears that things aren’t in focus.

Also when I look at hydro poles for example and tilt my head up and down the poles stretch and shorten instead of just seeing them from a different angle. Makes me thing there’s a concave or convex effect to them.

I had the mirror replaced twice, on the the third one and still the same problem. The dealership has escalated it to Toyota Canada. Just waiting to hear what they have to say. Everyone at the dealership sees it as well. Their parts manager told me their parts truck has the same issue.

    Any fixes for this.
I was at dealer yesterday for this.

They told me that’s the way they’re made.

Mine is a 2020 and they replaced it once with another warped drivers side mirror.

He at least opened a complaint with Toyota.

Going to check on having one custom made. It’s dangerous because, I can see 2 vehicles when there’s only 1 back there.

I thought I was the only one. I've had cheap and expensive vehicles and my 19 Taco is the first I've ever had with a distorted fun house drivers mirror. Shit was driving me nuts and I kept telling myself maybe it's just me but I knew it wasnt right. Its definitely distorted in the 12 to 3 o'clock area. I had a 13 and a 16 Taco and the mirrors were perfect on both of those . My 19 , not so much.

A couple of beers may correct this common issue. This must be very frustrating. I have a 2016 Taco and have not noticed this issue. Do you think this issue could be isolated to certain model options? I apologize if this as already been answered

No fixes up to this point that I’m aware of. The replaced mine twice, I’m on the third one and still get the distortion. They opened a case with Toyota Canada but I haven’t heard anything back to this point, but also haven’t followed up in a while.

The worst area is in the 12-3 range as well with it less noticeable from 9-12 but still preset .

Im curious to know what climates people are having this problem in.

I find mine gets much much worse in colder temperatures, colder than -5C/23F.
I had a service tech tell me once that the mirrors are two layers epoxied together.

What are the chances/possibility the epoxy expands in the cold and causes a warp in the mirror which is giving us all the distorted fun house mirror look?

    Thoughts?
