House was built in '88. The inspectors said everything was good but that and a few rotten trim boards outside. Also mentioned sealing some small gaps around the exterior to prevent moisture/pest intrusion.

Well they have a guarantee that they didn't miss anything and if they did they'd pay us the full purchase price of the home... I'd hope they did a good job.

Anyone recommend a certain brand of 30 breaker residential panel? Need something I can add a circuit to for a welder in the garage in the future. Replacing the Challenger panel with help from my dad.

Edit: guess I'll need some more info like max amperage etc...

I've always used Square D QO (not the homeline) in my rental properties and my own home. Readily available at the local electric supply, and I think even Home Depot/Lowes has a few load centers in stock. It seems like the QO breakers are sold anyplace that sells breakers - mom and pop hardware stores, big box stores, supply houses, so you can pick them up as you need them.

Moisture sensors only guess the moisture content of whatever material comes into contact (all they do is measure electrical resistance across the sensor contacts).

Also, the blower wheel is directly attached to the motor shaft so if you ever have an issue with no airflow at the vent, it’s 100% a restriction in the duct. It is very rare for a blower wheel to fall off the motor stub shaft, and a damaged blower wheel causes such an imbalance that the dryer sounds like a jackhammer when it runs and bounces all over the floor.

Good ducting should have airflow roughly equivalent to a hair dryer on low setting, shouldn’t smell like mold, mildew, or a swamp. 90 degree bends should be minimized as they cause a pretty sizable restriction in efficiency.

You can also remove the flexible duct from a dryer and let it run, if the issue goes away then you know with further certainty that the duct is a problem.

I’m a service technician. If you have any questions, PM me.

Finished wiring all my can lights in the living room. Installed a 4 gang box in place of the original 2 gang. So much nicer now and with the lights separated for 3 in the walkway and 4 can lights in the living room with a ceiling fan w/ light. All wired to dimmers minus the fan.

    Finally feeling accomplished!

    :annoyed:

Stupid big ass earthquake hit today and now a bunch of door trim around the house has separated at the mitered corners. Guess that’s gonna have to get added to the house project to-do list

How hard is it to pour a slab with some self-mix for a small patio? the current one seems to have eroded underneath and cracks have formed all across it. I'm thinking about doing it in the spring when it warms up. I assume, dig out, tamp earth level then gravel and shoring boards around the perimeter. Is rebar necessary? then something like quickcrete mixed in a wheelbarrel, poured and then screeted nice and smooth?

I hand mixed 26 80lb bags for my patio steps. I'd advise getting a cheap cement mixer to spread the process up.

IIRC when I was dealing with my most recent dryer vent fiasco, the number/degree of bends also limit the total length of exhaust runs. Or rather, there is a maximum total run limit, and each bend in the duct reduces the maximum run length permitted.

I was looking at the large radius els that have much less restriction and therefore reduce the length reduction effect, so to speak, but those were not going to work in my application.
