For the second time it is 20.3 on the Rubicon. Unlike Tacoma where there really aren't big spec differences between trims the modern Jeep has a huge capability difference between the trail rated and regular trims. Still not as good as the other trucks but it has the longest wheelbase. What's the break over on the Tundra?

Plus the other guy was correct; rock crawlers who are Jeepers will get a Wrangler. This hybrid appeals to a different type.

I just gotta say, the Gladiator to me looks like Scion tried to make a Land Rover/Humvee/FJ combo. The front and the doors are the only thing that say "Jeep" to me.

Anyway, it seems like some people think breakover=departure angle, so here's a pic:
For comparison, my long bed numbers are 32 Approach, 23.5 Departure, and 21 breakover.

I only do mild/duty off-roading, that is to say no rock crawling or hardcore trail runs with my buddies, and the DCLB's approach/departure/ground clearance has never given me pause entering or exiting river beds, driving up steep mountain trails, or cutting through forest roads; so why would the Gladiator?

It has very comparable body dimensions to the DCLB, better approach/departure angles, and slightly more ground clearance. I don't think 99% of Gladiator owners will even notice the effect this has, and anyone else is probably going to mod it anyway with bigger tires.

Out of curiosity, what IS the 'nightmare' scenario for this....11"H speed bumps/rocks that are longer than the wheelbase of the truck?

Has anyone talked about how much that pig is going to weigh? Almost 1000lbs more than a taco.

I'll be taking a hard look at these next year when I'm truck shopping. My 2006 has been a decent truck and it owes me nothing. Getting a 2019 Tacoma would feel almost like getting the same truck. I'll also be checking out the new Ranger's and even the F150's. Not exactly apples to apples but not too far off.

So everything I've seen points to four-door only. That's too bad.

I love my neighbor's JL Rubicon. The update doesn't leave a lot to complain about. The interior is flat out more appealing than our Tacomas and the fact that we have to chop body mounts to fit the 33s that come stock on the Rubi is a joke.

I don't think the Gladiator steals any Tacoma customers that Toyota hadn't previously stolen from Jeepers looking for more space to store stuff. And while this will be more offroad capable than our tacomas, that wheel base doesn't make it the rock crawling truck people were looking for. I think the Ranger is going to be Tacoma's direct competitor.

I agree with the Ranger being Toyota’s direct competitor. I truly believe the Gladiator’s biggest competition will be the JL unlimited.
