Thinking about trading in the tacoma for a tundra double cab. Just trying to weigh the good and the bad.....most importantly is gas mileage. I'm getting about 16 to 17 now with the tacoma and the tundra is the 5.7 liter monster. Help me please!

A few folks on here have traded to a Tundra and regretted the decision because of size and gas mileage IIRC.

yeah those are the sticking points. Having a family now though, it would be nice to have some extra room. I'm so effing torn right now! I still love my tacoma as much as when I first bought it, but the tundra is a pretty sweet ride too.......aarrggghh!

Get the family, use the taco as long as is possible before it proves itself too small. Then if it does get too small [which it probably won't if you have a dc] then trade up, but don't trade in anticipation of needing the extra space. You very well may not need it.

yeah i see your picture is the double cab. I recommend sticking with it as long as possible. There is a huge loss in changing vehicles often. You know it and we all know it. I say take that money and spend it elsewhere or save it. Nothing wrong with your truck is it? Compare wants and needs.

And to confuse you more... You only live once, don't waste it!

We're already feeling a bit tight now and that's with just one kid, Not planning on any more. Taking trips now, it's tough to get all our stuff packed in.

I've had pretty good luck trading when the mileage is still low and the truck has some value. I have $8000 in equity now....wouldnt be able to afford the tundra otherwise.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .

Went from 2000 Tundra to 2004 Tacoma to 2007 Tundra to 2009 Tacoma .... and for me, the Tacoma's size is perfect.

The newer Tundra is waaaay too big for me ... the Tundra is great if you haul or tow a lot and that 5.7 is like driving a rocket.

Just my opinion, but the Tundras are butt ugly. If I went full size I'd get a Sierra or a Titan.

One kid, two adults in a double cab taco and you're having trouble packing for a trip? How much shit are you taking with you? There's a bed back there for chrissakes.

The only fullsize right now with a basic design that doesn't look like shit is the F-150. Up until the 2009 refresh, Ford understood how to make an uncomplicated and attractive vehicle. Then they decided to ruin it last year by way overchroming all the trim and adding crease lines where they could be the most offensive. It looks like a child's toy now.

I traded my 07 Taco for an 08 Tundra. Mileage was only about 16, my wife only got about 14, and your right, it is a beast. That thing would pull a house but it is a huge truck. Now I have a 2010 Taco and love it. :D

I originally would have gotten the Tundra but what kept me to the Tacoma was the fact that the Tacoma was the only one i could get with a 6spd Manual

Gas mileage will kill you! If it goes up again to $3-$4 per gallon, your gas bill per month will be more than the truck payment.
    Just my 2cts.

Have you driven a new Tundra? I liked them until I drove one. If you are going to get something that big you might as well get a diesel full size truck. You will be getting better gas mileage than the Tundra and you will have more room in the cab and bed. My 2006 Double Cab Tacoma gets 16mpg as where my 2010 Dodge 3500 Mega Cab diesel gets 19mpg. The Tundra would be at 14mpg.

You get that Dodge Truck look but with the Toyota name.
I'd like to have the 05 model Tundra myself.
