I'd say that car is only worth about $4,000. If that. What he paid for it seems about right.

Let them total it. Take a check for $5-6K probably, then but it back for nothing and pocket a few grand. 130K aint' a beauty queen anymore anyway. I know of 2 Pilots, similar years with over 250K and very minor issues.

 

Why not take it to insurance either way? If insurance says totaled then just fix out of pocket. I don't see the issue

I doubt you could find another deal like that for $3500. I'll bet you could sell it with the banged up side for $3500 right now. I'd find a way to keep it.

 

His deductible is only $500 and he's going to notify his insurance company.
