So Tuesday night I was at work, I'm an Assistant Grocery Manager at a grocery store, when me and this kid were dicking around in the back room. He shaved his head the other day and left a rat tail which isn't aloud. We all told him to cut it but he never would. So I told him I was gonna cut it. We were playing around, including him, and he dared me to try to cut it. When I got to it he said the words "Go ahead". So I did.

Then he decides to get pissed about it and called Human Resources on me like a little bitch. Yeh I know I shouldn't have done it but the little bastard practically told me to.

When the HR guy came to talk to me today I told him exactly what happened and that I accepted full responsibility for what I had done, but in no way did I physically abuse him or force him to let me cut it. I even stated what he said but I guess it doesn't matter.

Me and my store manager are really close and he told me that the HR guy feels like we were just horse playing, which isn't grounds for termination. He even told the HR guy that it was bullshit, lol

He suspended me temporarily until they decide what they are gonna do but no one has ever came back from a suspension.

At first glance, I thought you were working in the state of California. Then I saw you weren't. Wow! I hope they tell you on what grounds. Perhaps, maybe you'll be the first to return to work your suspension is up. Who knows. Good luck man.

Sorry to hear about this; stuff like this you can usually get away with, at a small business or a family owned business. But with the place you work at with an HR person, you have to be real careful what you do and say.
There are people out to get you, any chance they get, which is wrong, but that's life.
Professionalism is the name of the game, the part that's in bold is not.

Good luck with finding a new job if they do let you go, I hope it works out for you.

You'd be surprised how many people get fired dorking around. It ain't worth it no matter how fun it is. Step up and be professional, even in low end jobs. It pays.

If your boss suspended you pending the investigation I'm not sure they can fire you! I believe you are considered punished since you were suspended without pay. You may want to contact a labor lawyer to make sure though.

Question: Did you learn anything from this incident? I'll bet you did and that is what would make you an excellent manager. Next time send goldie lock home and tell him not to come back until the hair meets regulation...then tell him he has 7 days to comply.

    No, Lowes Foods

Thanks for the replies, I know it was my fault and I accept that. Just pisses me off that it happened the way it did. The one thing that gets me is that he is gonna get away scott free even though he was horsing around as well.

    You WERE the manger.

Nuff said. Obviously a position you were not qualified for.

My wife got fired because they outsourced her job. No horseplay other shit involved. The boss just thought he'd save money by getting another company to do what she did.

If you've got a job - don't fuck it up. It may be gone before you know it.

Well you live and you learn. Gotta take things more seriously next time...hope for you it's not a permanent suspension. If it is though, what you gotta do next is get you a pillowcase and fill it with a couple bars of soap then wait for his ass in the parking lot...just sayin.

As the manager, you should be the one setting the example. It sounds like you should have written him up for violating policy. If I was your boss, you would be demoted. Good luck.

The shitty thing is that management is afraid to see him as anything but as a victim, ie horsing around. we all know he is wrong....... it is just sad that it only matters what he says, not what is the real story.... ie him with out of regulation hair, time slips, attendance, work ethics. you will be better off somewhere else. keep your head up.

That sucks. If you do get fired make sure they agree in writing to not dispute an unemployment claim. Ask for it in writing. If it was e, I'd call your boss and meet him for lunch. Take a shot at talking it out with him. The worst he can say is no. See if it's possible if you can take a hit in title and keep your job. A little kissing ass can go a long way if you keep your cool and don't get mad.

Nah, he's here looking for sympathy. Frankly, I have none. He was a manager - a position that the one occupying it is required to behave in a manner that is a cut above the grunts. He admitted to acting in an unprofessional manner, and was quite frankly, causing a potential safety problem as he had to be carrying scissors to be able to cut off the offending hair.

The PROPER manner in dealing with it would have been to send the other guy home to either cut the rat tail off, or go home and seek employment elsewhere.

WOW MAN THAT REALLY SUCKS.... Been there too many times so know how it feels. Too bad they just didn,t enforce the dress code policy like they should have and you'd still have a job

I would re-familiarize yourself with the company policy if you can.
