Except that the wrecking yards know they can sell every single part off a Taco, so they bid stupid money for them. Then there's the backyard hacks that know they can sell a running driving Taco for stupid money, even with a salvage title, so they bid stupid money too. Then there's the Russians that buy the totaled vehicles and put them straight into a shipping cargo container.

No analysis for me. My motor is silent now but I’m still running the t6 oil.

EDIT: for a low mileage motor use swengines. Honestly I wouldn’t get a reman. You have to break it in which seems like a chore and there’s no guarantee that you won’t have issues. One little miscalculation can cause the same issues you have. I’d only rebuild if you had a core and could do most the work.

I did not read this whole thread. I do feel sorry for the OP. Sucks it threw a rod and looks like it went through the block. Your going to need another engine. New from Toyota would be spendy even if you can still get them. Used is your cheapest bet but then your not sure what you are getting. Rebuilt would be another route that might include some sort of warranty.

If you can, once you have the engine out, dissect it to see if you can figure out what went wrong. Even if that does not help you, it could help others like me that are running the same engine.

I myself have stuck to synthetic oil, but other than that I have not modified the engine one bit, just routine maintenance. The synthetic oil does start easier in cold weather, but other than that I have noticed no other improvements.

No, never done an oil analysis. Found a jdm importer in Seattle 50k 07 t4r/FJ motors for $1750.

I’m curious on these JDM motors as well. Few things. This is specific to a 3.4l but in you have to change the steering pump for some odd reason and you have to swap the oil cooler and oil filter locations. Which is odd as well. One thing you need to be aware of is you don’t know the condition of the motor. It’s possible the owner never changed the oil.

I’m also skeptical of the mileage of these motors. It’s super weird that there would be a law forbidding going over 60k miles. Who should have the money for that in Japan? I wouldn’t think most people over there couldn’t afford a vehicle let alone buying a new car/motor every 60k miles.

If I were you I’d ask to pull the valve cover off to look for sludge. I’ve also seen a thread on another forum where someone had water in their oil. If I really needed a motor I’d buy a used from someone that can offer some sort of warranty. When I was lookin I thought about taking the used motor to a machine shop for them to give it a good look and that way you can avoid putting it in then finding out there’s an issue and having to pull it out again. THAT would be a nightmare. And who has the time for that?

Yes its the law over there. And yes not many people own vehicles. And they dont use them often. Was stationed there for 2 years. Some of the people i got to know. They take extreme pride in owning a vehicle, and take good care of it.its more expensive to drive than anything. In 1996 fuel was 2.50 a liter, to goto tokyo toll passes would be 35. It comes to about .50 per km for tols.

Yup, during the annual inspection they will make you replace parts for having minor surface rust. Considering how well the frames resist rust I'm surprised they make it to 60K before the costs to pass inspection make it not worth expense.

I wish i had one of those frames. Alot beadier than ours. But a hylux in japan has the payload of a 3/4 ton pick up over here.

Well just found out that company, engineworld, has some questionable reviews, and the location they listed for Seattle is a dummy address just to get exposure. They're actually out of California. I thought I would be able to cut out the cost of shipping, $300, by picking it up locally. That kinda turns me off. The $1750 price is before exchange which I didn't expect an importer to require a core if they have a source from japan. $1000 core which I was told would be partially refunded depending on condition of my engine. I don't see my block being fixable and that would be a $500 hit provided the heads/other internals are fine otherwise I'm eating the whole $1000. In which case it turns into a $3050 import. Starting to sound like more of a headache. Junk yards in the PNW sure are proud of their 1GRFE's. $3k for a used engine from a 07 with 77k. $2800 for one from a 10 with 101k.

If I had the title in my name, I'd probably be looking at a 2UZ, the 4.0 transmissions, A750, was used with them in the v8 t4r's and tundras and will bolt up to them. I can find a 2uz for under a grand all day long, twice on sundays.

    20months left on my loan.
