My son is competing in regional for percussion right now. It’s the weed out round, the final for regional is Saturday. If he moves on he’ll go to area, then state. He is getting sick and stressed af, and won’t be happy unless he gets state. I hope he can control his nerves and doesn’t get sicker.

Yea, as odd as they look and function the science is there and the results support the data. Other states have them as well. I think more will pop up once the trend gains popularity. Sorta like roundabouts. No one liked them at first but now they are so common people just accept them. Pennsylvania has some huge ones that are more elongated. They do reduce the amount of accidents at traditional style intersections.

People confuse them as a means to eliminate traffic. In reality they are Traffic Calming devices. Like speed humps or medians and bump outs that force you to swerve which in turn forces you to slow down, or, calm down.

I hate them all because I don't like driving calm.

 

What works well in one place might not work so well in another. We had plenty of those little roundabouts installed ‘couple years back. Like Rob said “Traffic Calming” purposes. They shoulda passed that list on to the Snow Clearing contractors. There were a lot less of ‘em come spring.

Oh, some are definitely improperly designed! They put a small one up near me. It's on a road near a lot of commercial businesses but still very country, and some business parks. The one corner coming out of the business park is never without large ruts from tractor trailers not being able to navigate through it properly. Working for an engineering firm I shake my head when I see it. And like you said, how do you snow plow in a circle? It takes them so much longer to clear it. The smaller ones are designed to allow longer trucks to drive over the centers. They typically have 10' wide concrete aprons on the inside.

 

You’re right about that. HAD 10’ concrete aprons, Lol. Another “great” idea but not up here was Big Box Stores. Doesn’t work at -40. Parkin Lot turns into a gong show.
