Driver's side water leak

I've read many threads about this issue and printed off the TSB for it but the TSB is only for the cowl leak. Is this "cowl leak" the primary cause of the leak in 2005 Taco's? Regardless of the amount of rain we get, I end up with visible standing water in my drivers side carpet. I've taken it thru touchless car washes without a leak but let it sit outside in a slight drizzle and bam, water in my carpet. Any help besides the TSB would be much appreciated. I live in a wet climate and this is really p!ssing me off.

 

The cowl leak was for water on the passenger side. And if it were on the passenger side, then you'd have many possibilities to check off.

Seeing as it's on the driver's side, I've seen others post about that. Are you sure it isn't happening when you drive it? Because it could be a plug underneath as the culprit. Another I remember was someone having problems with the rear window leaking. Turns out it was running down under the carpet and traveling to the front driver's floor, even though the rear carpet felt dry. I'm sure others will post up more possibilities for the driver's side based on things they've read/experienced in the past. Sorry I can't be more help.

 

Pretty sure its not happening when i drive. I drove to work about 2 days ago and it was dry, both the weather and my carpet. During the day it rained a bit...when i got in my truck to go home it was wet. I read about the rear window seals but not sure how to diagnose that. I feel a slight wetness in the carpet right along the trim on the bottom of the rear drivers side door jam (body) but i dont know if its from a rear window leak or from another leak up front trickling to the rear. Its very confusing and more then just a bit annoying because i have to vacuum it out every damn weekend!

 

I say next time it starts to rain see if you can go sit in your truck with some good tunes and a flashlight

 

Well yesterday was a nice day here so i proceeded to disassemble the interior of my truck in search of this leak. Removed the drivers seat, carpet and trim around the door, stuck a hose on the roof pointed down to the drivers side area of the windshield and turned it on. I found the leak on the body seam behind the sound insulation and the blue electrical connection box. It was a strip about a quarter inch long on the body seam where there was no seam sealer. Got some ultra black and plugged it up, and today right on cue it rains and i have no leaks.

i know this happen to you 8 years ago, but what year tacoma you had? i have a leak on the driver side now too.

 

I’m in the same boat with my truck. Water pooping in the driver side right under the pedals. I was under the assumption that the windshield seal was bad. Any suggestions would help. 2006 trd sport

 

You got a roof rack?

 

No roof rack. Also when it rains hard I get some moisture in the headliner, at the overhead console. I’m leaning toward a bad windshield seal, but I’d like to hear other people’s experiences with the leak issue. I just replaced my carpet with the vinyl floor and installed katzkin leather. When I did the floor I gave the driver side footwell a pretty good once over and nothing seemed out of sorts. I’m making an appointment this week for a new windshield anyway, mine was just cracked due to a rock. Thanks for the input.

 

I'll bet it's the windshield seal if it's getting in the headliner. Good luck!
