My top plate is too tall to use J bolts. I think it's supposed to screw to the body like the slee mountimage-2161966041.jpg

I see your photos and my top plate is not like yours. I'm not at home or else I'd post a photo. I'll grab a photo and post it up this evening.

That Slee tray you link is for 100 series Land Cruisers, so I don't think it's applicable.

I realize that, i was using it as an example. The photo below is the CBI battery cage I have. It is NOT like the cage @b00gieMonster has. The top plate in the photo below (CBI Logo) is what I have.

So it bolts to the radiator bib? That's cool. That was how the battery hold down worked on my old 1991 and it always seemed more secure than two J-hooks.

I think so, not sure, The only bolt on the bib is also where the driver headlight bolts in. Once I install it, if I'm smart enough to figure it out, I'll post up photos. Was hoping someone had already installed one like this, that's why I asked!

@KaizerWilhelm, I gotcha. It confused me because I thought the Tacoma battery sits too far back from the headlight and bib for something like that to work. Hope someone can get you a photo. I'd have guessed you'd need two J-hooks, but I don't know that based on any actual knowledge so I'll be watching to see, too!

@DaveInDenver I was not clear, my fault. I'll see what's going on tonight/tomorrow and if I can use my stock battery with the cage, (31M hasn't come in yet).

Two J-Hooks would be easier, but you're right, the bib will be more secure.

If yours has that lip that sticks out like the CBI picture it’s for an older version Tacoma or other Toyota model. The 3rd and 2nd gen tacoma use the one posted.

This one is sold as a 3rd Gen tray on their website and locally, Mule Expedition Outfitters, where I bought it

Ten inch if I recall correctly. Longer is fine as you'll have to trim them anyway.

Does anyone have a picture of how the tray is secured to the fender? Does it get bolted to the fender or have nipples or bumps like the factory tray to key into fender?

There is a single bump on the bottom tray that lines up with a hole on the inner fender.

So I finally got a 31M and got around to installing the CBI tray I got from Mule here in Seattle. Does not work at all. Tray does not line up with any holes and doesn't hold anything securely. Below is a photo of the tray. Any advise anyone? IMG_3901.jpg

Turns out they sold me a 4Runner battery cage. CBI sent the wrong thing. No biggie. CBI is sending a replacement but I'm also considering the OGE universal battery cage. It's the same price but you can add on stuff as your electrical needs grow.
