for 90% of the players, it's their last game ever. having an insurance policy isn't going to help their draft stock if a player breaks their leg.

I know it, these guys are already talking to nfl agents about the millions coming draft day...our defensive line is nfl bound and might not risk injury for a PS4/XBox/gadget...lol oh yea and throw in a hoodie

excellent.. back to the name calling. you just can't handle when someone else is right.

watch the exhibition games that aren't part of the CFP. you'll see lesser known players put forth more effort than the guys that are going to be drafted in the top 3 rounds.

Players get drafted through injury. The insurance policy is to mitigate their financials if they fall beyond projections, which again, is generally not all that bad unless you’re someone like UCF’s QB and lose blood flow.

You’re falling on a sword with your argument. Most players don’t sit, and it’s laughable to say players don’t ‘try’ in bowl games. Coaches would be getting fired left and right for that shit, and scouts would notice that all day.

And Oklahoma drove off with the larger paycheck too. Haha. That was a BCS game, surely they were paid big $$

I’ll say this, the few times we’ve played in meaningful bowl games, everyone on the team left it all on the field.

You have zero empirical proof that this is the case except to say ‘well my team lost in a lesser bowl so they weren’t trying!’

    Log out.

the proof is in watching the games for years. it has nothing to do with it being my team or anyone else's team. an exhibition game does not change whether or not a player gets drafted (unless they get injured)

We usually play every player in the bowl game, hoping to win of course but still all play a little here and there.

Again, you have no proof of this beyond your anecdotal nonsense.

Is it safe to surmise that Oklahoma wanted to play in the meaningless BCS game and Alabama did not want to play, from cough due to cold syndrome? If so, I have ocean front property in Arizona for sale, from the front porch you can see the Sea, friend.

i'd say ou wanted to play because of their former coach's hatred for the SEC.

I just know coach Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. to well, and he generally disagrees with most Alabama fan logic. So I just can’t get on board that he would willingly leave 20 million on the field for OU.

I’m trying, it just doesn’t make sense.

if the specific game doesn't mean anything to the players, then you can't make it mean something to them. i'd imagine stoops preached to his guys about how everyone say saying the big12 was inferior to the sec and they needed to go prove a point.

So let me get this straight.

Players will sit for draft .. maybe. But players won’t sit for conference rivalry .. maybe.

    Okay.

Players do slack off for bowls. We all know it. MOST bowls are meaningless. The coaches slack off too....

    Read this.

    https://www.indystar.com/story/spor...ers-skipping-bowls-hate-bowl-system/95849014/

That's why teams don't necessarily perform in bowl games. Coaches leave, or dont create the intensity because, hell they aren't getting a bonus, the school is going to LOSE money to play in the bowl....lol.

Pretty good article. There wont be "proof", other than good old human tendency. Which is predictable.

Texas should just take the game off tomorrow. It’d take a miracle for them to make the playoff, and they can be healthy for their NY6 bowl.

I’m sure that’ll go over well.

I remember 2004 Peach Bowl Tennessee coach and players upset they were only playing 8-4 Clemson from ACC with 10-2 record and ranked in top 10 of BCS, said they were going to destroy them and show they should have been in a better bowl. Don't remember the score but Clemson put it on them and Tennessee hasn't been anything since
