Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Bought mine over a year ago so mine has the dongle.

 

Is this worth looking into? Will truck have to be custom tuned for this throttle body to see any HP gains?

 

Did you buy a OEM replacement? That one looks brand new and new OEM are going for $400+

I can't imagine a larger throttle body making much difference on a 210 cubic inch engine unless there are turbos involved.

Unless that is... the factory TB is terribly undersized already.

 

I think I’ve seen some BRZ dyno charts that had ~10hp/10ft. Pretty sure they use the same TB as the stock 2GR.

I think they were Supercharged though with out FI could be marginal.

I can see our TB being undersized on a non-turbo Taco. But working on my 4.9 Dakota, I kept machining on & opening up my TB a little bit at a time. It had the semi-hemi 4.9 in it with a manual 5. After bumping it up 3mm over & blending, that was my last gain according to the dyno. But it was not as ECU controlled as my Tacoma. Which I give thanks again to @OVTune to making this 3rd Gen behave right

Yes so a 70mm to 76mm with a tune ought to make a difference. May not be huge. But I’m all for gains.

 

I had been looking at the Tundra throttle bodies. Looking forward to seeing more info on OV's exhaust and hopefully some tests on gains with throttle body, exhaust and tune for them.

 

I can’t decide if I want to risk an aftermarket TB or a used one.

Rockauto has a refurbished OEM one for ~$200.

 

I've been having the same debate. Given my history with refurbished or remanufactured parts I'll probably opt for a used. I'll make that decision once we learn more.

 

Any news on 1.05 AT ?

 

@OVTune what is the Toyota part number on that Tundra TB?
