Lexus 3.5v6 vs Tacoma 3.5v6?

I didn’t mean it as the Camry is sporty, but the Camry has the higher revving engine, along with the sportier Lexus coupes. Compared to a Tacoma a V6 Camry is pretty sporty though

Totally missed we’re talking about a ES350 for some reason I thought we were talking about a LS 500

always wished they opted for the 4.6L V8 out of the tundra and mated it to the new 6spd and put it in the 3rd gen.... id bet it would get better mpgs and towing numbers.

Theyre making ANOTHER IS 300 but with 3.5L? How strange. Toyo. usually uses the #'s as call outs.

 

Unfortunately, those days are gone.

The IS300 AWD (from 2016-onwards) uses a detuned version of the 3.5L in the IS350. The engine is identical, it just has different tuning in the ECU.
The IS300 RWD (from 2018-onwards) uses a 2.0L turbocharged engine (this was called the IS200t, but was renamed; the same applies to the RC300, NX300, RX300, etc.).
The LS500 uses a 3.5L twin turbocharged V6 engine.
Not to mention all hybrid models (LS600h - 5.0L, RX400h - 3.3L, RX450h - 3.5L, CT200h - 1.8L, HS250h - 2.4L, IS300h - 2.5L, etc., etc.).

But I still chuckled when I read it. Like 'did he just say Camry and sporty car in the same sentence?'.

 

The stock taco V6 makes 75-77% of max torque at slightly over 2k rpm.

The diff gearing, when combined w/auto trans ratios is intergalactic though, at max HP/gear:
1- 39 mph
2- 67 mph
3- 94 mph
4- 140 mph
5- 202 mph
6- 241 mph

Its insane how badly mismatched the engine and gearing is. Total WTF moment when I saw this.
Also makes perfect sense that guys dropping in 4.88 diff gears have a more normal driving experience.

 

Every time I take my GX to Lexus for warranty work (which was quite often shortly after I bought it), they give me a RX350. I’ve easily put over 1000 miles on a RX over the last 2 years. The 3.5 motor/8-speed transmission is very underwhelming despite the nearly 300 advertised hp/torque. It’s constantly downshifting (albeit smoothly) and screaming the revs because there is zero power at low RPMs. It is smooth and gets great MPG, but at the expense of feeling completely underpowered.

I’ve also had the RX hybrid as a rental. Be glad the Tacoma doesn’t have that offering yet. It’s MUCH worse.

 

I sure miss the engine in my 2015 IS250. It was only a 2.5L V6 but boy did that car drive worlds better than my taco. Sure, it has to do with a lot more than the engine configuration but CMON TOYOTA!

Both could not be further from the truth. They definitely use more insulation and sound deadening materials, as well as focus the design of the Lexus to be more smooth and quiet (IT'S A LUXURY VEHICLE), but both vehicles are made at lightning speed by robots. You guys make it sound like the Tacoma is made by a redneck in a shed with nothing but duct tape and WD40, while the Lexus is completely hand made by Japanese crafters. LOL.

DIFFERENT PRIORITIES. This is like comparing the design of a Trek road bike, to a mountain bike.

 

Just came back from the Tahara factory.

Relatively speaking .... compared to Tahara, San Antonio factory .... is quite redneck

 

After I first got my 2016 and drove it awhile I would get in our ES and give it too much peddle and the wife would be like WTF. I never did that when I had my 2004 Tacoma. As others said, I think it's just the tune on the new trucks. It didn't take long to adjust.
