Damn. Picking up an SC soon, and one of the bolt holes for the EGR tube is stripped. Needed it filled in, and re-tapped.

As much as I don't like to use them, can't use helicoil? Or threadsert which are usually better.

That's the easy, and reasonable way.

But you know me better than that. ;)

They work well & will be plenty strong, in many cases even stronger than the alumn threads.

I'm not sure what the part looks like but filling in with alumn & retapping the hole might not be a good/cheap solution. You'd have to grind away the hole pretty big to weld it up if there's room on the part. If it's a blind hole it'll be harder. If the flange is like an ear, it might be best to cut most of it off to build it back up with weld to ensure good penetration. Then you'd have to reshape it to how it looked before & might not look good if you care. If the part is pretty big, it'll need to be heated up before welding. All this can bring the cost up to repair & I would only trust someone who is very experienced with alumn welding repair.

Again I don't know what the part looks like but I would just use helicoil or a threadsert. Helicoil is cheaper & can be bought at any auto parts store or industrial supply.

I still have to get it, it'll probably be in January. Once I get it I can assess the damage. Right now it has a block-off plate - but I need EGR to pass California emissions so I'll have to fix it.

When you get it & still need help with it, send me a pic of it & I'll walk you through it. Pretty simple to do yourself, just a a couple of important things that needs to be done to do it right.

Shock seal kits here are basically $20 per shock. You can get uniballs for $15 each if they are bad enough to need replacing as well. I don't know what brand shocks you were referring to, but they have rebuild kits for all of the major brands.

    http://shockseals.com/king.htm

Shafts are $60 a piece from King - ask for close up pics or video of them fully extended. They require soft jaws to hold them in a vise and a cheap torch to heat up the rod ends enough to melt the loctite that hold them on.

    https://www.kartek.com/parts/kartek...x-or-sway-a-way-58-34-or-78-shock-shafts.html

New hoses can be purchased at any hydraulics shop. I got 2 new ones for $50.

This video shows mostly how to take them apart.

The only special tool needed are the spanner wrench and the soft jaws that are only required if you have to get new shafts or rod ends.

New oil is like $40 for enough for roughly 4 oem size shocks.

Springs are usually reusable but could use a fresh powered coating or sand blast and painting if you live in a rust belt state.
