So, I've been looking to get rid of my Tacoma for a while. It's too small and gets awful gas mileage for what I use it for...... Don't get me wrong, it's been a great truck and been through a lot with me.

I either can buy a used 2016+ F-150 4x4 5.0 DCSB with under 40k on the clock, lift it and all that fun stuff. Or get a 2016+ Silverado DCSB 5.3 4x4 also with under 40k on the clock, lift it as well.

OR, I could buy a 2011-17 Ram 2500 with the Cummins and 4x4 but probably with higher mileage. Or a Dirtmax/6.7 Ford.

    Any thoughts?

Everything you listed is a solid purchase and platform to build from in my opinion. No interest in the Tundras?

Go to Ford, Chevy, Dodge websites. My guess you will find more users with insight on those models than on TW.

Personal pref, just pick the truck you like and be done with it. Nobody here can give a valid argument for what you should buy. Just go get what you like!

I don't like Tundras too much, plus the gas mileage is awful.

Modern Diesels in my opinion are only worth it if 1. you are filthy rich and money is no object or 2. you need a diesel for towing and hauling capability.
Diesels are INCREDIBLY expensive to maintain now a days and they are not the reliable tanks they used to be. So unless you need a Cummins or are filthy rich... cross it off the list.

I liked my Fords. I've not been a Chevy fan, mostly because I don't like the body styles over the Fords not necessarily over anything logical haha.

I really like the grille design on the 2016 F150. I think they are very nice trucks, very comfortable with a lot of nice features. So my vote will be Ford. That's the next truck I'm buying.

I like Ford's style, their trucks can take a beating, I think they are relatively easy to work on, and I enjoy the design of the interior and the features.

I am the wrong guy. I am all about the Taco/Tundra or Gladiator/Raptor :)

Of the choices the OP provided, I would get the 150 5.0

For the Chevy, unless you get the big boy 6.2L, I wouldn't get the smaller motor.

No thanks for me on the FCA Dodge.

I'd go with the Ford. Most of the guys in the NE BS thread that no longer own Tacomas have gone that way and all are happy.

In particular the 5.0 is the way to go that you mentioned..been very reliable for all I've known who had it

I’d shoot for a f150, but why lift it if you want better mpgs? Keep it stock!

Yeah, I want better than 12 city. This is a V6 Midsize truck. If I can get 16 like I did with my former fullsize worktruck, that's worth it. Kinda getting tired of hearing that.

Why diesel? I couldn't agree more with @PackCon. Diesels cost so much more to buy and resale is not that much more. I mean if you want diesel bling-bling, more power to you. If I may add, even if you tow frequently the fuel savings would have to be around $7-13K for the time you own the vehicle (given the excessive mark up on diesel trucks). If you get a new truck every few years that is simply not worth it. Higher price tag up front and not that much more resale value than gassers. I am a biased mid-size truck owner though, may get better feedback from big three forums.

I had a 2014 F150 with the 5.0, I put 285/70/17’s with a 2 inch fox lift, on the hwy I didn’t notice any change in mileage. It drove really nice and was problem free for the year I kept it. But as I mentioned above, personal preference, go drive them all!

That's my line of thought on diesels. Most of my friends who own them also have other vehicles when they can't afford their new trans, injectors and all that.

If anything, I'd prefer an older 12v Cummins or something from the 90's. But not as a DD
