I ate some bugs during my survival course this summer, and I have to say that roasted carpenter ants are actually quite tasty, lol.

Also, just passed someone this afternoon with a Hab just west of Walsenburg I believe. I stuck my arm out the window and waved :D

Yum! here's a great recipe for them. Loved them as a kid. But I bet you didn't have any peanut butter or celery with you during the survival course??

Yep, the first one I ate raw I spat out because the strong flavor surprised me so much. I'm guessing it's the formic acid. But roasted, it cuts the lemon/sour, and adds a better crunch plus a bit of that smoke from the fire. I honestly think I'd buy them in the store, they're that good.

Lol, nope! Subsisted off of grasshoppers, ants, wood sorrel, purslane, plantain, tumbleweed seeds, cholla and prickly pear cactus, 2 handfuls of sheep jerky, and 1 trout for the final 5 day challenge :hungry:

If I had known the OR model came in a long bed, I might have bought a 3rd gen instead of my 15. In Utah at least, the DCLBs get scooped up ASAP.

I would avoid the 3rd gens at all costs. The automatics, anyways. I HATE the way this 18' AT drives, it's a constant "up down up down up DOWN 2 SCREAMING RPM up up down etc." shift dance, I've been waiting for OVTune to release the latest version which has an option to lock gears, but who knows when the hell that'll actually come out. Toyota really, really dropped the ball, and I may never buy another Toyota again after this experience.

Yea thats why i settled for short bed because i couldnt find an long bed quicksand back in 17.

And wveryone has their own opinions about the 3rd gens. Mine has put out 47k trouble free miles. Love it. The engine , trans , and body. Never have had a single issue. And love the interior of them. Dont miss my 14 at all. Beaides the long bed part of it.

It’s not just the Toyota with hunting gears. Wife has an 8spd in the Tiguan, it hunts, drove a Colorado 8spd, it hunts. It’s the amount of gears and the computer’s desire to keep you in the power band. Low power motors need to shift more. The 7spd in my G37 isn’t bad, as my powerband is much longer and I can lug the motor much more to motivate the car as needed.

I’d never buy more than a 6spd auto with low power motor again.

That used/trade in long bed hab, where is it? Asking for a friend.

Finally got some time to experiment. I removed the Habitat mattress and replaced it with the MegaMat - unbelievably comfortable. So much better than just the Habitat mattress or even the latex topper over the mattress. I thought about rigging something up so I could strap down the MegaMat after removing the Habitat mattress, but I found it so easy to deflate - about one minute - that I’m just deflating it and packing it up. Bonus - so much easier to close the Habitat without the original mattress. Taking it down to Anza Borrego over Christmas and will let everyone knows how it was. Also, tested the Propex heater - provides a lot of dry safe heat quickly. Looking forward to testing that too during the cold desert nights.

Will look forward to hearing your thoughts after some nights in it for sure... I like the idea of extra space and easier pack away of the tent without the original mattress. Have fun on your trip and make sure to post up some pictures when you have the time.

Could you just put some adhesive Velcro on the bottom? Like the foam mattress?
