So I have a question for everyone in the group who wants to answer. I put a deposit down with one of the local dealers on a 09 4x4 double cab manual tran six disc, off road, with floor mats, tow pkg and daytime running lights for 27100. Another dealer today called me to see if I was still in the market for a truck I told them that I had a deal so no. They then found out I had not taken delivery and offered me the same truck for 26600, with the stipulation that I can get my deposit back and the truck can be delivered by 1 Nov. So my question is do you think it is worth it to ditch the dealer I have the deal with for $500? The new dealer is closer to my house and would be more convenient. What do you all think?

Use it to your advantage. See if the dealer where you made the deposit will beat the others price.

Tell the dealer you already have a deposit with that you have another dealer thats closer to you and is offering the same truck to you for less money. If they really want to sell you the truck, they will make the deal happen. If not, go with the dealer whose offering it to you cheaper*.

    * This is of course assuming that both dealers have about the same level of customer service and a good service department.

If it isn't too much trouble to switch over, I say do it. I mean, you're not obligated by the old dealer for anything...heck its your money, you own it, you control it.

Go back to the original dealer and indicate that you have a better offer. If they can match the offer you will purchase from them ... they make the decision and you have still taken the high road.

Tell the original dealer the truth. Give him a chance to beat the new offer by a couple of hundred anyway. (would pay for first mod...)If he can BEAT the other dealers price then stick with the original. If not, and you can get the full deposit back, then go with the better deal from the second dealer of $500 less....Do they use ethics at the stealerships?

Tell the current dealert about the situation. Suggest to him that you will take $500 in accessories rather than the further discount. You keep your word, and get accessories you probably would have bought anyways. The dealer still makes the deal and is out his cost only on the acessories +-$300

If he does not go for it he loses the deal:eek: As they say the ball is in your court!!

what would the dealer do if they were in your situation...exactly!

its your money, you owe no one but yourself. use it as a bargining chip and get the 1st dealer to drop the price $100 below what the other dealer offered you!

The dealership that you are working with should be able to match the deal with no problem as slow as car sales are it's a buyers market. Another question would be what dealership will you be having your warranty work preformed at it would factory into my decision were I bought.

I really don't see this as an ethical dilemma, just a business opportunity.

I wouldn't have any reservations about making the switch as long as you are professional and communicate honestly.

I agree with everyone.... use it to your advantage and see what you can get out of the deal.

Worse case scenario, you pay $500 more over a 5 year loan.... that like 10ish more bucks a month... not a big deal IMO

$500--That's 6 tanks of gas, plus reduced stress in dealing with a closer dealer.

Hovever, sometimes it is a real fight to get your deposit back, If the dealer has not breached the deal.

I ended up making the truck purchase from a distant dealer, and still go to my local dealer for service--they still welcome me in the service department.

none but please give me your info.
play them off each other, or get your deposit back. Those blood sucking salesmen would do the same thing to you in a heart beat.

Business is business... and if someone is making you a better deal - then do it. But at least give the new dealer an opportunity to meet or beat the price.

I wouldn't feel guilty about ditching your original dealer. Car salesmen will screw you anyway they can. It's time to turn the tables.

Do you think the dealer would have any ethical worries if he had a way to get an extra $500.00 out of your wallet? Just be honest and tell the salesman about it and see what he offers. I'd go for $500.00 in accessories. Bet Mat, TRD Seat Covers, Bug shield, or whatever suits your fancy. The tool box they offer is pretty nice. Expensive but nice.
