You don't have a clue man.

    Let me end this thread:
It does not matter if you are smarter than the engineers at Toyota.
It does not matter is they are wrong and you are right.
    Why?
Because you bought a vehicle designed by them, they did not buy a vehicle or engine designed by you.
That makes them responsible for any problems during regular or extended warranty, not you.
Since they designed it, they get to make the rules.
You can break those rules of course, but you are on your own if you do.
They can deny warranty if they so choose.
It's up to you to prove your choice in oil and filter was right.
Good luck proving it. They have teams of engineers and gigabytes of data showing they are right.
You have whoever told you (dad, grandpa, mechanic) and the internet.
Good luck with that. I know how it works. I will stick with their spec and not even question it. Until proven (real proof, like multiple failure proof) otherwise, those guys are smarter than me on this particular application.

Do what you want. It's your truck. Do not try to convince us that you know more than those guys, which is what all you guys who disagree are trying to do, show us you know more than the engineers who designed it.

All I try to do in these threads is to get a hammerlock on ignorance. It's impossible. They have no clue and worse, they get the neophytes believing them instead of Toyota. Unreal.

They are definitely smarter than us. I wonder what their view from the high horse they ride is like?

This is my last post on this ignorant thread. Everyone should drink the Toyota cool-aid and be happy. FYI stock filter has 15.71 cu in of filter while a WIX 51348 has 22.81 cu in. The WIX is called out for the 2nd generation 4.0L v6.

Lol the machines that produce Wix Filters don't even use Wix filters. I have been in their plant.
    Good luck man.

So...anyone run the 0W-20 and do an oil analysis followed by a run of 5W-30 and an oil analysis? Would be a simple way to find out if the 0W-20 is causing more internal component wear than the 5W-30 like claimed.

There is a lot of dependence on a very low cost entry level oil analysis without TBN or TAN being used as scientific proof in this forum.
If anything it is incomplete and the type of test cannot pickup and report on the fine sooty insolubles produced by direct injection. And them2gr-fks does produce it.

The Cheap oil anaylisis is good to identify major mechanical problems such as coolant leaks, or a mechanical part wearing abnormally. Without a TBN and TAN you have no idea how well the additive was neutralizing acids and providing g protection against corrosion.
That’s not half the information you are missing, You are also blind to the soot that is inherent to the DI.
The abrasive soot is much finer than the filter media and consumer testing does not screen for it. It is a good reason to go up in viscosity and to keep the oci’s to 5K or less.

I am hoping Toyota timing chains turn out to be higher quality Than GMs. But the mechanism of premature timing chain lengthening has been proven with their problems.

Do not take this as an attack on you but your posts used to have a knowledgeable tone although they never had any corresponding data other than your constant admission that you are an engineer . It is a shame that arrogance and condecension have become the norm from you for anyone who disagrees with you or your buds. . Maybe you need to dismount from your own high horse ?
I will be gone again as this whole platform has gone from a a place to learn and exchange ideas to a highschool click .

Maybe you just caught him in a bad mood. Many of us here, including myself, eventually lose their tact because we see the same nonsense posted over and over and over.

Too many myths circulate the forums and soon people believe it. It can be frustrating.

So looking at this from the otherside, who here has used what oil Toyota recommended, then had an oil related failure?

Everybody here has a different background and perspective.

Hopefully we all benefit from reading what other people say.

I am not an engineer, but I do give certain members posts more weight because of my own experiences and what I believe is reasonable.

And if in doubt, I just follow what the owners manual says.....

    Cheers

I don't take it as an attack. I deal with this in real life every day. Somebody spouts nonsense with no data to back it up and expects others to believe them. My data here is simply the owners manual. Nothing more nothing less. If I talk about something like physics or microns here I fully expect every reader to google it to make sure what they are reading is true. Sometimes I have to do research before making a post, to make sure I remember a concept or formula correctly.

As far as cliques? I don't know of any here, however there are several like minded individuals here that joke around, just exactly like real life.
    Good luck.
