This is a serious underestimation of the wattages required to run these EVs. You would need a solar panel so huge you wouldn't be able to carry it.

The 180KWh battery being offered in the Rivian is the next step forward in Lithium Ion density. To compare, my Tesla's battery is an 85 KWh.

I decided not to get the model 3 after all. The one I was referring to is my brothers model S.

Just couldn't afford it.

The car with 4WD (2 motors) plus the higher range (big battery) is too rich for me. Ends up close to $65K.

 

Why do you need the 3 with 4wd?

 

If I buy another DD, it will be all wheel drive.

The Teslas come with RWD normally or an upgraded, electronically controlled "4WD" system with rear and front drive motors. It is not a fluid coupling setup like traditional AWDs. There is no direct connection (no drive-shafts) between the front and the rear.

 

Why do you think you need awd?

 

My thoughts also. Lots of awesome options for 35k awd. I’ll be looking at the new sti for a daily in a few years. Need them to bring the wagon back though.

 

Oh no, that option still exists and is perfect for any city dweller that lives in mild climate. The 220 mile range is not a problem for them, nor would they ever consider taking it anywhere that traction becomes an issue.

 

I am thinking ahead a little I guess. Right now if I want to cross the passes, visit my sister, deal with our rare snow storms here, I'm in the redhead without question. But if I choose to leave this (relatively) mild climate to live somewhere with real winters, I want a DD that can handle it comfortably. The next vehicle I buy will be able to do that.

I think it would be really cool to have an AWD Corolla hatchback with EV/hybrid drive...in a manual please.
