It's funny that this topic comes up for me on this forum. The last time I took a dip was July 4, 1992. I had been a chronic Copenhagen user for 17 years usually going through 2 to 3 cans a day.

I just flat out went COLD TURKEY. For five days afterwards, I was always in a cold sweat and started to get extremely anxious but eventually the feelings went away.

Even though it will be 18 years since I took a dip, I still feel the need to have something in my mouth especially when I go on long drives. To kill the urge I put chewing gum or beef jerky (sometimes both) inside my mouth to simulate having a dip. Sounds funky but it worked for me....

    Good luck on quitting.....

I am on day 1 of quitting.
used to drive 30mins each way to work and would have 2 dips a day. moved 5 mins from work and its just not the same, so i figure, why not stop. at $5 a can, about a can a week... well i could use the extra coin for more beer.

I just quit doin it for 2 months now. I really didnt find it hard to stop. what i did was when i wanted a dip i would pull out a normal sized one then take off about 1/4th of it. i did that for about a week. then the next week i said i wont take a dip until after dinner. so i waited till after dinner and took a pinch about half the size of my original. then the next week i only had one every other day. then i was done.

snus needs to go in your upper lip to get full effects, not lower

the camel snus may be too weak to help someone quit. you may want to go with the swidish stuff, General makes a few good ones and they have about 1/4 the nictine as dip, its spitless, and tastes pretty good. swedish snus has been around forever and was develeoped to help people in europe stop smoking, it caught on in sweden and they have a very low rate of smokers. i have read that camel adds chemicals to their snus to make it easily addictive. go with General White Portion Mint SNUS, its great

I started smoking in 1991, at the age of 18 when i graduated bootcamp. Cartons of marlboro reds were $12 a carton at the PX!!! Needless to say i was hooked- for 17 years . At the age of 35 i decided that i did not want to have smoked for over half of my life. I used the lozenges at first, then realized how addictive nicotine really is. Lozenges were more expensive than smokes(3 packs for $9 at the time i quit). Finally got off the lozenges and nicotine altogether, for about a year, until hunting season. I started dipping copenhagen long cut$4.66 a can!!!

Started on Chantix for smoking February 1st on Monday (March 7th) It will be a month since quitting smoking. I have smoked half my life I am 30 years old. 15 years of smoking and a good 10 of those years where a pack a day at least.

My biggest wake up call was December 5th 2010 3 months ago today. I suffered a heart attack at age 30 and was in the hospital for almost a week and a good month of recovery at home. I have a wonderful wife who has stayed by my side and I have 3 boys ages 5, 3, and 6 months. They need their Dad around!

It's not "exactly" the same but I like it and it's not gonna kill me. Used to be a Copenhagen guy but that was definitely gonna kill me sometime...

Gonna try the beef jerkey, just may work! Tired of looking for that fresh can of copenhagen at nearlly $5 a can. See my ^^ post above. I think cold turkey is the only effective method for me personally as i like the lozenges, gums, patches to much. Don't really like the patches or gum, but those lozenges were awesome.:(

    I quit chewing copenhagen on Jan1st. i started when i was 16,i'm now 51.
Ii used the patch, candy and gum. you really have to want to quit, and tell yourself that everyday.Drink lots of liquids, cause I felt dehydrated, and that really made me want to chew.
as the saying goes,if I can do it you can too

I quit smoking and i know what you are saying to be the truth. You have to want to and keep reminding yourself there is not 1 good reason to do it, but plenty of reasons not to. Just getting myself ready to say enough is enough. Thanks for the advice.

One of my husband's friends from high school died last year from mouth cancer, from a lifetime of using this stuff. When Allen last saw him, the guy had had to have his tongue removed, and he was communicating with a handheld chalkboard.

I know beating people over the head with potential consequences tends not to work, but really, guys, it's NOT worth it. I know we're all going to die from something, but prematurely with a lot of suffering, if it can be at all avoided, wouldn't be my choice.

Good luck to anyone trying to quit. Never tried any of it myself, but my dad's been tapering off and trying to quit smoking for years - at 60 - and I know it's damned hard to do.

Glad you are going to be ok!! Those boys are gonna need you around for a long time. I have 3 kids also. The 2 youngest boys never knew i smoked, but my 11 year old did. I think they are teaching the kids about how bad tobacco is for you now. That is a GREAT thing. Never start, never have to quit. Some people can handle a cig or a dip here and there, but then there are people like us- all or nothing. Must be the way the brain is wired . If you get the urge to smoke, remember 1 cig will lead to a carton. Good luck, Mike
