Just curious what you guys think. I have one of those ping happy motors. I had a motorvac carbon clean service done on it and it still was ping happy. I had to add in A bunch more retard in the 1500-3000rpm range to get it to stop. Still, every once in a while, for some reason I think I can hear some very faint ping but it’s so faint its really hard to know if it’s ping or not. I really don’t think this is a carbon issue. It could possibly be but I doubt it.

I’m just curious if this is a motor issue or maybe a ECU map issue. Maybe not all the ECUs had the exact same software? I don’t know. It would be great if I could just add the necessary retard in OD only. That way I would have more power everywhere else. This is why I’m hoping for the ability to reflash the ECU.

Just disconnect the battery. When I installed my 7th I had to pull the plugs out of the ECU. No issues.

Believe or not, & that was engine dyno, not at the wheels! Don’t believe V-6 can hit 5+ hundred horses you must not get around much. The engine was on deep discount because it was a special project (money pit) and runs stand-alone ecu only. There were chevy parts on some of the engine I don’t recall, URD Gadget isn’t the end all to go fast, LCE has been around too and thier r&d team is not a one man op. We could start a post into detail about fast 6 cylinders going high hp & high rpm. I’m sure you know about Supras, how about buick grand national or many more if anyone wants to add. For Christ sake there are 400hp n/a hondas at Church auto and not just one and they are 4 cyl. My motto is don’t underestimate Man, as I was a great machinist and had a customer run our gaskets from SCE for his heads he built, he owns Duttweiller racing & on a 289 SB that engine hit 2700hp on engine dyno w/twin turbos w/o blowing our gaskets. I know thats a V-8 but small displacement, and the saying ‘no replacement for displacement’ couldn’t get more wrong as time goes on, Sea doo has a 1000hp 4cyl supercharged...

I never disconnect the batt, but its probably not a bad idea. Better safe then sorry.

How long did it take you to get the dash apart and get to the ECU?

@OVTune. Would a flash allow the ability to retard the timing more in overdrive than the other gears?

The two guys that posted their ECU versions did not have numbers that matched one of these. How many different versions were there? And will more versions be able to be cracked than the ones posted?

This is a supported ECU version

The flash / Tuning will allow you to change...literally everything :

    - Ignition timing advance / retard
    - knock controls, knock sensitivity,
    - Sensor scalings (any sensor on the engine that the ECU uses)
    - rev limit, speed limit
    - throttle calibration / angle / etc

    etc etc etc etc

    @OVTune
So i have an 02 4runner, well had. anyways i have the engine and ecu. i can take pics of the chip. I believe 01-02 4runner's use the same ecu/throttle body as 03-04 tacoma's and tundras, however i was working on a friends tacoma recently and it had the same throttle body as mine and it was an 02. I have a second gen supercharger and 7th injector kit im putting on this thing, but having an engine tune would be nice as well, possibly eliminate the 7th injector.

BRB with pics of the chip on the ecu

What do you need to happen to release the software / instructions? I'm at least several months out before getting a blower, but am obsessive about planning ahead and over-researching the details before I do things...

Maybe someone else will know, all I see is a circuit board.
