Truck broken into

How much was it to get the truck rekeyed? I just had the same thing happen, took my valet key, not the key fob, but still don’t like the idea of someone being able to get into my truck

 

I live a couple hours from the arctic circle and my coworker recently had his hitch stolen. This stuff can happen as long as there are people around you, doesnt matter where you are.

 

Saw a story recently where a Tesla Model S was stolen in a similar way. I guess I’ll be looking into a faraday pouch to store my keys in when I get home or disabling the key fob when I walk in the door.

This is all good info. So wrap my key fobs in foil? Or put them into a metal box? This will help stop the signal from breaking in? I'm also looking to buy the security bar, but it says it's not preferred for the electric sliding window? It wont matter right, I cant just remove anytime?

Just turn off the fob- its faster than looking for a bag to put them into. Saves battery life, too.

 

When I delivered mail I was surprised by the number of people that actually left their key ring hanging in the front door lock, easily visible to anyone walking by.

 

Just had my 2018 dcsb broken into sometime in the last four days. I drive my Scion to and from work,I leave my truck parked on the street. Today I was planning on installing my Hondos Garage perfect squeeze mount about $150 bucks right!!!! when I go up to my truck & Put my hand on the handle nothing happens...I think to myself thats weird, Then I give it a pull & it opens. I look in & see my glove box & center console open. Then I open my back door & discover some lowlife has removed the bag containing The mount & all the extras. I'm really pissed off right about now.

 

They can take mine so I can get a manual one .screw this automatic transmission lol

 

Wife went to Michael's craft store and bought me a tin can to put my fobs in at night. Put the fobs in it and went out to the truck and grabbed the handle. Stayed locked. Pulled off the lid and took a fob out of the can and the door unlocked.

 

If you put the fob in the back of the bed the door won't open.
The point is they use an amplifier that boosts the signal so it is still possible what little signal is out there cold be amplified.

 

Lets face it...people suck. Some people just need a good old fashioned ass kicking to learn right from wrong but you can’t even do that anymore...

 

Wtf! This is crazy! I’m getting a tin can ASAP.

 

How do you turn off the key fob?

Work flawlessly.. I got an alert someone was in my driveway.

I walked out with “The Governor” and told them I am not scared to shoot!

They left behind the stolen scooter because the had to hop a fence to retreat.

Too bad. I have had 2 cars stolen, both MT. My Z4 was taken from the driveway when I started the car to clear off some light frost, went inside to lock up, came out and it was gone. My bad of course, but it was less than 5"! It's obvious criminals walk through our neighborhood and look for crimes of opportunity.

It was recovered one week later a mile away with no significant damage, just the interior things including $150 car cover were taken.

My WRX was parked on the street in front of my house and taken. The thieves jimmied the rear door and hot-wired it--glued a switch to the center console. It was recovered 3 weeks later. There was a burglar's toolkit in the back seat, some parts had been removed and the whole thing painted over matte black. The insurance company totaled it out because would cost >$20K to repair and repaint.

In neither case did the cops catch anyone. They were nice enough to me, but there are a lot of car thefts in the area and that doesn't seem to be a priority.

I also have a colleague who had an Audi S4 stolen from INSIDE his garage while he was away. The thieves opened up the garage door and loaded his car on a flatbed. Did neighbors notice? I don't know, but it's well known experienced car thieves can hotwire a car or load it on a flatbed in 10" or less.

As far as electronically breaking into a car or stealing it, I don't know. After my Z4 was stolen I did buy a Viper door lock/keyless entry/alarm. Viper was started by Darrell Issa, the congressman who used to steal cars with his brother as a teenager and then turned it into a business. Never convicted...and they say crime never pays...

Hold the lock button and hit the unlock button twice. You’ll see the red light blink 4 times.

 

Worked for a repo company you would be amazed how easy it is on some of these modetn cars to grab n run with the proper equipment.
