My apologies if this has already been discussed but what does ECT mode actually do?

I can tell the shifting is smoother but that’s about it.

My real question, does it improve fuel economy? Doesn’t seem like it.

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
In a nutshell, it holds the shift to a higher RPM into any particular gear. Think of it as a "tow/haul" mode. Some drive with it engaged all the time as it makes the truck more responsive.

Has very little effect on mpg. On my 2017 it would drop the tank average from 17.7 to 17.2.

Using it in the city was pretty necessary to avoid the engine stumble turning into fast traffic.

I hope that is no longer the case with the 2019.

    Duh. Read you owners manual.
    It’s for Extra Crunch Tacos.

As a 6MT Taco owner, I was always a little jealous that the auto guys had an ECT button.

As said earlier, it holds the transmission in gears a little longer. That cuts down on the "hunting" the transmission does when you are in hilly terrain or towing a load.

OP. drive the truck with ECT on at 40MPH straight road while driving steady at 40MPH push ECT button to turn it off. you will feel instant deceleration like you are breaking. for that reason plus many other reasons i installed the ECT on at start up mod and drive with it on 100% of the time.
