I lined one of those small, wooden craft boxes from Michaels with faraday tape and felt. I stood next to my cars with the fobs in the box and couldn’t get the doors to unlock.

It took a while getting used to not hanging up my keys, but it’s now second nature to toss them in the box and shut the lid.

    ■ Effective range (areas within which the electronic key is detected) When locking or unlocking the doors. See the diagram on page 124 in the owners manual.
The system can be operated when the electronic key is within about 2.3 ft. (0.7 m) of the driver’s door handle. (Only the door detecting the key can be operated)
When starting the engine or changing engine switch modes
The system can be operated when the electronic key is inside the vehicle.

Thanks to everyone on this thread I now keep my keys in a metal can when they are not in use. I also walked out to open the door with can in hand and it would not open the door. Bummer that the world has come to this but, better safe than sorry.

You mean using wireless technology? or hot-wiring?

If you've ever lost a modern car key and needed a locksmith, you'll know A) it takes a locksmith literally 10 seconds to get into and unlock a car using an air wedge and a wire, and B) it's not cheap--cost me $250 one weekend in Minneapolis to have the lock rekeyed, including on-site service.

Wow its high there in st.cloud we charged 150 for that.
Oh wait you had it rekeyed? Thats a different game. But repoing we get the vin n do some home work dont need a wedge with proper equipment. But in mn if not repoing it is illegal to posses that equipment. We drove some cars as long as tgey stayed within 100 ft of the wrecker.

Its called a FARADAY CAGE, and is basically the RF equivalent of noise cancelling headphones.
The freezer is especially good because it is also grounded.
The clutch weights in my snowmobile got magnetized by Earth's magnetic field due to always parking it in the same direction. At certain RPMs, the RF would freak out the ECM and the engine would stall. Solved the problem by wrapping the ECM in aluminum foil :)
