So my battery was killed one day because the lights were left on while i was in school. i thought i may have remote started it by accident and the lights stayed on after. But come to find out on three other occasions, after shuting off the truck and geting out the light have still been on. The dealership "never heard of it" OF COURSE!
???? Any one heard or experienced this?????

Its most likely because of your after market remote start. I recall mine doing this before too. I have a Viper remote start / alarm on my truck. I've never troubleshot to figure out why.

I've had my lights stay on a couple of times when I removed the key (vehicle running and then turned off) while standing outside the open passenger's door. I'm think this is by design. :notsure: Any chance you're doing something similar?

I do have a Viper Remote starter in mine. Heres what i have done for trouble shooting so far.

1 If i remote start the truck (wich i almost always do), the lights shut off Automaticly every time.

2 If i start it with the key, which i have been doing recenly, because it summer, they dont shut off, BUT NOT EVERY TIME.

3 On the remote start I dont have the "door trigger pulse wire" which shuts off the lights when the remote starter shuts off. so i dont know why it would have any effect. (If you dont know what im taking about dont worry about it.)

i dont see how it could be the Remote starter because it hapens when its not activated. On the other hand I have seen weirder things happen with the viper starters before so I will not rule it out. But before I jump to conclustions i want to see what everyone else thinks.

I leave my switch on at times, because the whole dash is lit up at all times. It kinda confuses me, like one time i drove out of a gas station at night and noticed i didnt have my lights on because my whole dash was illuminated.

I had a similar problem today, after owning the truck for 3 months with no problems I came out to the car with just the foglights on and battery did not have enough juice to start it. Luckily security at work had a jump box. The only thing I can think of is that after shutting of the car and opening and closing the doors I walked back to my passenger side door and opened it turned on my accessories to crack my windows because it was very hot then I turned off the accessories and shut door and walked away. I assumed by removing the key the lights would automatically shutoff. I have a factory installed remote starter. It is puzzling because Toyota seems to have gone out of there way to make sure every electrical output shuts off without the key in the ignition. The only other thing I can think of is that I just started using a sunshade but I don't believe there is a light sensor in the tacoma.

Did you ever figure out what was causing your lights to stay on?
