How do you like the GB Sport, any leaks? Having one installed next week. Had a different SnugTop model on a 1st Gen and it was great for the 15 years I owned it. Minor resealing of the rear hatch window that was it. After reading thru some threads with reported leaks due to these wacky 3rd gen beds, I'm a bit concerned. Installer says they will seal the front corners but do not recommend removing the side rails and weatherstripping underneath as they have not seen issues with leaking there. What should I be asking about or watching for during install so that I can avoid a return trip?

Here's my long bed with an ARE V series shell. Has windoors with sliders on both sides and a full folding and sliding front glass.

Traded my Predator steps for this 2 month old Leer 180. It was red but my body shop painted it to match. Picked it up this afternoon. The guy I got it from said he paid $1900 for it 2 months ago. Put it on and hated it. I hated the Predator steps. I got the better end of that deal for sure!

A couple things I’ve noticed but didn’t at the time of my purchase was how the side windows seat to the fiberglass. Some are flat, some are recessed and some are recessed that look bad (imo) depending on your window choice.

The are v is flat but if upgraded to Windoor style actually seems to protrude out. Standard sliders obviously don’t protrude as much

The are cx is recessed and not formed to the window exactly (2 corners specifically unless you get the fake ass corner fascia). Windoor style you can see what I mean because they don’t seem to have the corner fascia.

The are z is like a suv, personally not my taste but for some

Just looking at pictures on here from leer caps, it looks like the most of the models have the recessed windows which actually form to the window (without the corner fascia on the are cx). This looks best imo

I have the cx but Based on the pictures provided in the build your cap thought the windows I choose were flat (like the v series) not recessed. I dislike the fake corner fascias and think I dislike it more if I removed them. The recess would look Amateur in design. I’m still not sure of the difference between the v and cx (besides the recessed side windows). If I could do it again I would of done the v series with standard sliders. Or looked closer at leer.

Are qc is subpar at best- paint imperfections (gouges, dirt particles, runs), front fold down picture window cockeyed so it doesn’t lock/close without forcing 1 side down (this will get addressed by dealer) rear lift gate fiberglass lip not fully seated in window so it’s warped leaving a bigger gap on 1 side (this also will get addressed) locked installed cockeyed, places the black paint on the aluminum framed windows rubbed off. All that and it takes 4-6 weeks to take delivery and for the cost I definitely expected better craftsmanship.

I did hear from the dealer that are has had some big changes in personnel and factories. So a cap that once took only a couple weeks is now over a month and the qc issues could be related to lack of experience from having to hire all new people not knowing what they are doing or caring for that matter. I think I would be looking at leer even closer

I actually don’t have any good full daytime shots. I’ll try and get some tomorrow

Edit: I did a ton of research before I decided but apparently not enough. I should of asked more questions here but could see the assault of did you even search reply. So sorry for the long post but the more you know maybe the better decision you will make for you

    Do seat covers count?
I just put an order in for a Swiss Cab high Cap (Swiss is mostly out here in the East). I'll post pictures of it when it comes in next month. I actually think if the truck is stanced right these trucks look damn good with a cap.

Is this a topper you'd be comfortable running a roof top tent on?

I have not done so yet as I do not own a RTT, but I have no reservations running a small to medium RTT on most any topper. Granted I wouldn't suggest doing any serious off-roading with the load on top. For the larger/heavier RTT variations I'd probably opt for a more HD rated topper.

@jholc21 Runs a RTT on his Overland. He would be a better resource to ask your question.

@backcountryj Thanks man! I figured it would be able to handle the normal trip to the campsite type of trip, but we do a lot of overlanding, so I probably need to look at the CX HD. Thanks for the info!

@jholc21 Do you take your RTT with you offroad? Notice any issues with the topper because of it?

Sure - but off road is a relative term. I have been to Utah but nothing crazy other than some off camber climbs and descents into dry riverbeds and some off road in Colorado this summer including over Georgia Pass, the back way into Breckenridge. No issues. I have Bed Stiffeners installed. If I was going to be doing anything crazy or lots high speed type stuff, I would probably recommend doing something stronger but I have had no issues.

Thanks! Bilstein 6112 at 4/5 setting and 5160 in the rear with Dakar medium leafs. About 1.6-1.7 inch lift with the weight of topper and some gear. Tires are 255/80/R17 Cooper ST Maxx. About 33 inch tall. Stock UCA. No rubbing noticed.

Thanks for the info! We don't go crazy offroad. Just easy to medium level trails, so I think this setup might work for me.
