I have a 2019 TRD Sport and mine doesn't either. It's my first Taco so I guess I don't know anything different. Would be nice to have some lighting in there though.

I have not been on this thread in a long time. I will say that I am extremely happy, both for price and output of both high and low beams, with the Hikari bulbs. I am also happy with my Baja Designs fog lights. All have performed within or above my expectations. I have made a few country road trips and have zero reasons to look for any better bulbs. The only downer, if you really want to call it that, is the BD fogs cannot be used for city driving for respect of oncoming traffic. When I need them they are fantastic.

Hi Steve! Nice you popped in! Great you're still happy with the Hikari's! I still say they are great bulbs. They were on sale again on Amazon the other day too.

The Hikaris are rated as one of the best bulbs on Amazon. A close second would be the Kantana bulbs. They are the exact same bulbs as the Supernova V.4 bulb sold by Headlight Revelotion at 1/3 the cost.

seems that concerns raised by forum members have been heard by your mods, and thread updated. Note for 2nd gen owners looking for answers here, (you are in 3rd gen section)that specific bulb types in here focus on the 3rd gen 2016+ Tacoma models, but in general terms there is still good info in here.

Similarities is they are all constructed of Surface Mount Devices (SMD), onto Printed Circuit Boards, that are of the right thickness to plug into the 921 socket. This is an inexpensive way to build these bulbs, some may even say cheap. Things to look for in the images are the quality of the build, how well the components are aligned, thickness of the pcb, shiny, even flow of solder. Another detail is that LEDs provide light based on how much current flows through the LED module, in comparison to its specifications. Constant current drive IC is desired.

"Error free" is only relevant if your vehicle monitors the current draw on each circuit to determine if the bulb is the correct one. Later model vehicles use this. My only knowledge is 2005 - 2011 Tacoma is not going to need "error free" feature for bulbs I can't say for certain 2012 +.

Next difference is the SMD LED type used. The descriptions should tell you which LED type is used, typically in the form of 2835, 3020,3035, & 2835 respectively. The #s refer to the size format of the SMD LED - specifically a 2835 is 2.8 x 3.5mm. It tells you only the size, but not the performance, however there maybe differences in performance depending on who actually supplied the SMD chipset.

Lumens is a basic measurement of the total quantity of light, specification is often based on calculated maximum for the chipset used, but no one runs the LEDs at their maximum, as they would not last. Typically operate at 75% of maximum. Colors other than white (the 5000 - 6000 Kelvin color temperature) will have much reduced light outputs. What lumens doesn't tell you is the Color Rendering Index (CRI), and Viewing angle ( angle the light leaves the LED) & how that will interact with your reflector. We'll leave the CRI and viewing angle out of this comparison.

unfortunately, the variations between who makes the LED chip set will vary considerably, variations between 90 lumens/watt to upwards of 160 lumens/watt output capability.
each of these SMD LEDs are typically 0.5W LEDs. (remember they are actually only operated at 75% of max).

    Check the reviews -
    Choice #2
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074YBMK56?ie=UTF8#customerReviews - used in Tacoma, owner is happy.
I think though the 15 LED examples using an internal heatsink allowing airflow through the middle of the bulb pcb is a better design at first glance compared to Choice #2 with its 18 (versus 15) LEDs

Choice #1,3,4 - 3&4 are the same, #1 uses a slightly different chipset.

comes down to personal choice, unless you are willing to try all three types to find the best one; probably comes down to shipping costs, reviews, and seller review with minimal difference in actual use.

I just wanted to follow this up and say that @deAutoLED.com responded to my email immediately, and quickly sent me out replacements. I didn't get a chance to put them in until today, but the buzz is now gone. Thanks again for great customer service!

    I bought these
    https://www.xenondepot.com/921-T16-Xtreme-LED-bulb-p/xt-led-921c.htm

I liked the idea of how it would direct the light and make use of the housing. I like the temp and think it puts out good light. Also it’s appealing instead of a board packed full of leds. It doesn’t cause any bright spots with the backup cam… I actually only get a bit distracted from the backup cam from the taglights.

I’m not a tester or have the equipment to do so, so this is just my thoughts

Most of the time, this is the best type of result. Real world experiences of what you see. I honestly prefer them.

So I got the reverse/turn led bulbs from the first post. They work just fine with the headlight stalk position at DRL.

If I turn to headlights- get some hyper flashing.

    Any recs on load resistors?

    2017 SR AC 4x4.

Welcome to the forum :hattip: I wish you would have asked first before buying from the first post. That is very old and since then a lot of changes have ocurred with the technology. I'm sure some other guys will chime in but I believe you need at least 6 ohms.

Ahhhhhh man.... like Rob said, You really should have asked first. All the items on the first page are WAY out dated and there are far better options out now.

@RobP62 and I both have a newer turn signal that's not only the brightest on the market, but also doesn't require resistors .
