What octane are u running ?

I drive around 2000-2500 miles a month.. 87 octane I get 18.9mpg, 93 octane i get 21.5mpg and the truck seems to drive a little better.

 

Been using 93 octane chevron. Tried 87 once and won’t go back unless I really have to. 93 just runs smoother. It’s just my experience. Other guys here says otherwise.

 

I run 93 due to a miss on regular. I notice no difference in power or MPg and only do it so my truck runs smoother and better.

They should make a 69 octane. We’d all use if and claim it was the best we ever had.

 

There is so much data that proves higher octane does not improve gas mileage.

I usually run 87 non ethanol fuel which is $2.98 per gallon here or if I’m on the other side of town where non ethanol isn’t available I run shell 93 octane which is $2.88 per gallon. I can tell you that my truck gets 19mpg with 87 non ethanol and 20mpg with 93 shell nitro. I can’t tell any difference in performance and feel my truck runs pretty smooth with both. I’ve honestly wondered though myself which is better to run between the 2? 87 non ethanol or 93 premium w 10%ethanol

 

Took this at the gas station a little while ago. It is 10% ethanol I believe.

I only have 1,200 miles on it, but every fill up has been regular...I guess it's 87.

The owners manual on my 2000 Jeep with a 4.0 straight 6 stated to use only regular gas, said in a pinch it was OK to use plus, but to never use premium.

Drove down to New Smyrna Beach today, and according to the dash read out, I was getting 20.7 MPG at 85 MPH.

 

Dont know what the manual says... or what I "should" run... but premium 91 octane is what I always run in my vehicles out of pure habit.

 

87 here. I had to fill my tank 3x with premium for a couple weeks last month when the regular and plus options stopped working on base (idk, Guam problems) noticed 0 difference. None. Nada. Truck ran the exact same.

87 octane for 2 years now and and just over 33,000mi. Truck runs perfect...

 

Have you ran a couple tanks of premium through it? I found it ran smoother and was worth the extra coin.

 

91 Out of habit .

 

This engine runs better on premium... that is a hard to dispute fact if you get enough seat time with both octanes. Engine runs smoother, the slight miss feeling the truck can have in lower RPMs disappears. Is it worth the extra cost? Personal preference. Truck was designed to survive on 87 and will run fine... but I like how my truck runs on 93 so that’s what I run. If crude prices rise, I’ll reconsider
