I have a set on the shelf right now.

 

After pulling the axle, I found a very dirty seal.





I clean it all up and the seal itself seems to be in good shape. It cleaned up really nicely (no pic). Time will tell tho. Reassembled without replacing the seal.

Also replaced the lower shock bearing. It was making a lot of noise, now I know why.

And how old was that bearing, Mike? Mine last a season.

 

He had Tim do them late last winter..so..done this year basically I recall haha

That's just how long they last in the lower rod end. They develop some play and get pretty noisy.

FWIW, upper last twice as long. Just the dirt and water and grime kills those in short order.

 

Well you could be just a screwed. Ive seen two sets of supers split because they are so tall on our trucks. Im not so worried as i shaved mine but..you haven't..so..idk haha

Yeah i know. Just didn't know if you were doing it yearly or if they were full on failing. Sounds like somwhere in the middle. I need to do mine on Igor bad and Im sure Franks need done. Though Franks have never made a sound.

IMO, if there's play in it, it should be replaced. Could it be run longer? Yes.

It's less than $10. Cheap assurance on an expensive shock.

Yup, others have experienced trouble with his bumps not holding up too. Shame too, cause I really like the ride they give.

I've used the high pressure wand at the local car wash twice. Plus I've hand washed it in my driveway. There are still hidden gems like this stuff, in every spot that is difficult to hit.

I'll have to check my logbook but I think Monte is wrong. I recall Tim rebuilding these in 2017.

yeah you never will EVER get all that bentonite shit gone. Sadly..

 

Nah we we're just lucky. By the time we hit bad bentonite we already had a layer or two of much from non bentonite. Then it never dried and we washed it off in Lovell immediately.

That is key to not let it dry.

Big horns isn't bentonite same as pyrors. Only time we were in that much was the foothills of the pyrors.

 

yeah it can vary wildly depending on concentration and moisture. We hit some real bad sections this year in Utah.

No I don't think anyone spreads it around on purpose. Its used in Kitty litter and other products.

You can't really..well.. you can. but it take a hurricane to get most of it off. You'll never be totally ride of it underneath i swear. Every time you work on the truck that shit will fall in your face.

Yea, it comes off easy enough, but it gets in all the little nooks and crannies. Inside of places you though were sealed. Places you can't get to with water. Well @Jamesboy2233 probably could, but normal humans can't.
