Official 2018 NCAA Football Thread

Oh I don't mean it for me, I'm more speaking on the committee since there has not been the greatest of consistency of their "criteria" and decision making so far.

 

Although, now that I just said that....this year is exactly the same thing as last year with just 1 extra 1 loss team. By putting UGA over OSU is basically the same as putting Bama over them last year. So that's fairly consistent. Also, when OSU gets blown out by a 6-6 barely bowl eligible team each year, that's pretty easy to keep them out of anything. Also, haha and EFF Urban!

 

they've consistently not done what they said they would haha! which I guess 5 years in we are getting used to it, learning their ways lol

 

So @stronghammer , do you think UCF should be in over OU?

Honestly, at this point, I say let em in. Let's see what happens.

Edit: Technically, by the committee's standards, they should. Conference champ, undefeated...yada yada.

I'm one of the few people that would've probably been like "hm, yeah I'm ok with that I guess it makes sense" if they had put UCF in at 4. Do I think UCF should be ranked over the 2 loss teams Georgia/Michigan? yeah I do.

If I'm on the committee and I'm ranking/choosing the teams myself based on criteria and based on "eye test".

1 Bama
2 Clemson
3 ND
4 Oklahoma
5 OSU
6 UCF
7 Georgia
8 Washington

that'd be my playoff.

 

8-team playoff with automatic qualifier for P5 conference winner and one auto for the highest ranked non-P5 team inside the top-15 or so. The other two spots can remain for teams that got snubbed with ‘quality losses.’

The committee is going to continue to have a controversy with it just being 4, and perhaps 6, because teams will continue to schedule multiple cupcakes on their schedule and relish years where they don’t play the best teams in their conference until the conference championship game.

I also think the NCAA should tell ND to join the ACC or not. We basically have two ACC teams in the playoff that didn’t play each other in the championship game. I loathe ND.

 

I'm at this:

1: Clemson
2: Bama
3: ND
4: Awww fuck it. Undefeated (for two years) UCF

If we moved to a 6 team play off:

5: OU
6: UGA

If we moved to an 8 team playoff:

7: OSU
8: Washington


I say let UCF in. They've gone undefeated for two years. Yes, I know they aren't in a "real conference" but they've done what they were supposed to do (same argument used for Bama's cupcakes) and beat the opponents they were supposed to beat. Also, this will prove a couple things. 1. Can a contender play against the power 5 and two, if they cant, we need to split the playoffs out for Power5 and then lesser known conferences.

This isn't the only reason "cupcakes" are scheduled. Also, if you didn't schedule those teams and only played conference games, then you might as well cut out all teams from the playoff who arent in a P5 conference. They'll never get the chance to play the big dogs and beat them, then they should have their own playoff and championship.

Cant do that. One loss conference champ. Gotta have em in with 8 teams.

 

also, I feel like if you and I were on the committee there would be a lot more of:

"fuck that!"
"you dumbass hell no!"
"pass the whiskey you dumbfuck"
"thats just your opinion you jackwagon, waste your vote"

 

I would advocate for a lot more chaos.


Example: "Fuck it, Fresno State is 11-2, fuck you Washington. The last time you were here you were a HUGE disappointment."

 

"Can't even beat fucking Auburn and they're in a bowl game with Purdue, in fact, we're swapping you and Purdue since they tapped OSUs ass and we want to see it AGAIN"

 

I didn’t say it was. They use them as tune up games, a virtual bye week, etc.

Some teams schedule more than one. Some don’t schedule them. Just making a point.

And the playoff isn’t just for P5 teams. Teams like UCF belong in some capacity because they’ve now gone undefeated twice and won their bowl game last year as well. I don’t think they would cut it in the playoff this year because their QB went down, but it’s hard to say otherwise because all they’ve done is win. Any given.. Thursday thru Sunday..

 

I dont know of any team off the top of my head that doesn't schedule cupcakes. Its part of the NCAA's wealth redistribution program. lol
