The TSB states it addresses certain concerns. Nobody should expect anything additional beyond that. Has anyone who had the stumbling issue at full throttle accelerations from stopped reported that they the issue is still present after the update? I am guessing not. Therefore the update has to be considered 100% successful. The only reason for anyone now to be unsatisfied with it is if it introduced new problems.

You are correct in terms of Toyota’s stated intent, but, as written in both my initial post, and the title of this poll, TW members are overwhelmingly seeking out this TSB for improved drivability, not to fix the problems Toyota has flagged (rightly or wrongly).

The poll seeks to determine if drivability is improved. That’s the only information we are after in this thread.

My truck shifts without lag, but not without drag. The big pause when I wanted it to go and that created a major safety issue for me is gone, but it drags out the gear changes. That is annoying, but not as annoying as it was. I am not changing my vote just because drivability did improve with the update, but I am disappointed in the transmission. That drag was present in my 2nd gen at times, but it is noticeably worse in this 3rd gen.

Had this done today. I DID notice a difference for the better at first, but by the end of the day of running errands it was back to the same. FRUSTRATED. Sometimes I sense that every time I get back into the vehicle it is better, than other times. I am hoping that it gets better as it "re-learns"? Can anyone comment?

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
TSB Update was applied today 9/4/18.

I voted Yes. Here is why. I have owned two Tacos both ‘17s. The first of which had an older update that did not seem to help much.
Both of the trucks exhibited the issues described: laggy throttle response, a surge/delay at full throttle, even a surge at low rpms at times, and Shift points that left the driver frustrated.

This newest update has solved the issues I described above.

Update on my experience. The transmission seems to get better each time I drive, so I think a lot of the gear dragging is the learning thing, but it does still hunt for gears at 40-50+ mph. It drags badly when I am trying to accelerate on some inclines, so I think I will have the dealership recheck to make sure that update really was applied. I do wonder. As for the mpg, I average 18-19mpg now city/highway mix.

Overall, I like the truck. I just wish the damn transmission was better!

You could just take it to your closest part store and have them hook it up and validate what the latest ECU calibration is at. Should be free. Plus it beats waiting on the dealership.

So I was at another site watching the OV Tune video and I came across this interesting quote in the comment section of the video:

"When I took my truck in for T-SB-0062-18, the Tech told me 0062-18 is old. He told me the new one is T-SB-0125-18 and had it done about a week ago to my TRD Off Road automatic. Now, she is running as fast and smooth as a 2018 Camry. My Taco is all cool now."

Maybe this is the TSB number in Canada? This was posted 3 days ago.

    Here's my TSB-0062-18 update story for y'all:

Had my 15K check up last Friday & when I dropped it off I told the service advisor I spend a ton of time up at the lake / driving steep roads & have read up on this software update & want it done. The kid had no clue what I was talking about & I had to go to work so I asked him to call me after he spoke to his manager about it. He called me back & clearly had been instructed to tell me they won't which I pushed back on. He finally caved & said they can request a technician take my truck for a drive because they "can only do the update if they have actual evidence of symptoms." I agreed to this since it was my only option.

When I picked up my truck he explained the tech couldn't replicate the issue (which was no surprise) but instead they gave me the software update TSB-0125-18 that's supposedly similar but not identical. He was not knowledgeable enough to explain the difference between the updates. The whole experience was 100% on-brand for this dealership: they didn't do what I asked & couldn't explain why they took the action they did. If you're planning on getting the update done, I wish you better luck than I had.

Does anyone know anything about TSB-0125-18?

I SURRENDER. . . . The TSB helped, but like many of you, I feel it needs to be much better. Even so, Ive decided to put up with the odd shifting and Im done monitoring gas mileage . . .in fact, I dont even go to that screen anymore. If I have to put my foot through the floorboard to accelerate then SO BE IT. . . put it in DRIVE and go. I seem much happier. That being said, my dealership said that if at any time I need the learning mode completely reset, they would do it. My impression from the many comments on this site, and my service tech., is that we need to drive aggressively the first 1500 miles so that it eventually adjusts and feels right. I know many of us have been "babying" the pedal to squeeze out gas mileage . . . wrong thing to do apparently. I may ask them to reset the learning at the 5000 service. Anyway, I dont get ticked off anymore when I drive the truck this way. . . just something for everyone to consider - especially since we know it probably wont get any better. Also, You're not going to break the tranny for shifting too much. My head service tech said there has not been one instance where the tranny or engine was compromised since 3rd Gen came out in 2016 (at his dealership). DRIVE IT!!

Just out of curiosity, what is your average fuel mileage? I have been averaging about 15.2 lately.

the new TSB is amazing when paired with OVTune. Also it sounds like Toyota will be utilizing OVTune for all 2019 Tacomas because it is so awesome.

Had the TSB then proceeded to go on a 2500 mi road trip towing our pop-up camper. I think the trailer provided enough consistent resistance during the learning mode and the truck drives awesome now. If I drive it how I want without thinking about fuel economy, I get about 16-18. If I am careful, I can get high 19's.

I read that as OVTune is focusing exclusively on Toyotas, not that the Toyota Corporation has literally taken over OVTune.

So confused. You said above “Toyota will be utilizing OVTune for all 2019 Tacomas.” I’m kind of slow though so assuming I am just not getting something.
