I suppose if you were determined to mount a hilift up there, you could drill out a few holes for larger hardware and mount one up. But the rack uses 1/4 carriage bolts for the tracks and side slots.

What if I want to see how far my 30lb HLJ will fly if I go from 65 to 0 suddenly? Maybe it could be a new olympic sport?

I just got a new rack and was wondering the same @Ayeele was. I've seen a few people driving around with them and that didn't even occur to me.

When you put it that way, it makes me wonder about the folks with 5 gallon containers of water on the top of their rig in rotopax. I guess the mounting hardware for those systems is beefier?

(one gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds)

Trying to figure out what accessories to get for my rack. Any suggestions on "must have" things to strap to it for a newbie?

Plano / Pelican case for recovery gear or quick access stuff, and traction boards for me, plus fabbed up brackets for 2 HAM antennas and an LED whip/dune flag. Seeing how small the bolts are that bolt the rack to the roof, I really don't want anything substantial weight wise up there.

    Cool man, thanks!
That's good to know. Thinking about an awning as that would definitely come in handy camping out in Arizona in the Summers.

How well does the Prinsu rack line up with the Leitner Designs rack? I'm thinking about getting the Prinsu for my access cab.

I've got a 2 gallon gas and water rotopax but nothing heavier than that and they are mounted to a plate (4 bolts attached to the rack with 2 bolts for each container to the plate). I only fill them when going on a trip.

Did any of you guys notice a drop in gas mileage when you installed your roof rack? At first I thought I was imagining it, but after a month Fuelly is showing a 1-1.5MPG decrease since I installed mine. Standard CabRac with 40" cutout nothing mounted on the rack itself. I know the rack adds some drag, but I figured the tilted windscreen would be a major help.

I got about a 1 mpg drop too after installing. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone that installed this without the windscreen to see the benefit of the windscreen. My guess is that the MPG is No rack > rack+windscreen > rack no windscreen.

Ok just making sure I wasn't crazy. Kinda crazy that the biggest hit to MPGs so far on my rig came from the roof rack.

To my understanding the roar of wind from lack of a windscreen would probably be unbearable.

I don't have the rubber trim on mine yet but definitely noticed it's louder at highway speeds. When I have my music off. Which is basically never.

I read the separate thread on here about a guy who was REALLY complaining about the wind noise and went so far as to cover all the channels on all the crossbars and even behind the screen.
My feeling on that is: Way too OCD. Or the thing was never square in the first place, exasperating the issue.

I just ordered my toprac but didnt even think about how wide the feet can go. Do you know how far apart your tracks are center to center?

The bar is 48" long, the width of the mounting feet off the top of my head, maybe 5", My tracks are about 38" apart I think, with this width I still had to stack some washers as to prevent the tracks being pulled up by the feet. Id say the furthest distance apart before the feet started to go past the end of the bar is around 43-44", accounting for 2.5" on each side where the feet go past the mounting point on the shell.

    Hope that makes sense.

@blake68 and @Mista_G you can swap the rails to account for the angle of the roof of the shell. Takes about an hour and some silicone
