If you are cutting it so close that a poor gear shift endangers your life and the lives of those around you, you should be questioning your decision making way before you question anything on the truck.

The truck sucks, no doubt about that, but this is a case of you fucking up pure and simple.

Is this a common occurence with these transmissions? Seems like Toyota ought to reflash or recall them..

OPs issue is a real one... I have to turn against traffic coming out of my neighborhood and that traffic is 2 lanes generally not exceeding 50mph and I've still almost gotten hit several times and it terrified me.

OVtune fixed that for me initially, but the latest TSB / ECU calibration also seems to have addressed this dangerous hesitation - which is another reason I can't figure out for the life of me why this hasn't been a recall vs. a TSB folks have had to beg for.

Should have researched before buying. Also I drive the shit out of a car before purchasing. You find out real fast how the trans acts of you really push it in a test drive. I hate how my wifes 2nd gen trans upshifts and downshifts and it's still 100 times better than a 3rd gen. I would really think about trading for a tundra or 4runner if you want to stay Toyota or get a manual 3rd gen. Waiting on Toyota is like shitting in one hand and hoping in the other. See which one fills first

Sounds like you spun tires and traction/stability control kicked in.

MT. I'm not a fanboi, I'm quite serious.

my last car was a performance model and had the VW DSG transmission, semi automatic. the computer had one particular behavior that would get it confused and drop the power, and that always would happen in an intersection when you punch the throttle. i instigated a NHTSA investigation for it, and it became a known issue. i almost lost my ass about 3 times from that in 136k miles. no fucking way, I have a family. i do enjoy the MT's like nobody's business but there's way more to it for me. if driving isn't about control then what is?

2nd 3rd Gen Auto Trans for me. I don't have any of these issues in my last one or my new one.

For how many seconds, minutes, was it deciding what gear before it squealed tires and took off ? How can it search for multiple gears from a standstill or slowing for a turn (into 70mph oncoming traffic ?) ?
I have none of these issues btw. Automatic too.

Yeah so you got hit with all the issues. Spends a good 2 to 3 seconds hunting. Finally down shifts then traction/stability control down throttled your motor and hit the brakes all because it's so smart. That is a scary situation for sure even with light traffic. I love my Caddys stability control. It don't kick in till your about to kill yourself from driving like a dumb ass and just in time to save your life. This new age tech I'm not a fan for.

Get the new TSB and see how it is?
You're complaining about an issue that has a fix out for it right now.

1st thing I do in wifes 2nd gen when I get in is disable all traction control crap if it's good road conditions. At least turn off TC. Then put it in S mode and ect. Also get the updates if not done.

Never had that problem. Always launches. Quite impressed once it gets to the higher rpms, it puts you back in the seat. I don't think this is a class problem.

What elevation are you at ?

How much larger? And if that's the case find a better dealer .

When I first got mine one dealer tried the same when I asked for the constant shifting they said tires.

Went to another dealer and they offered TSB
Even recently for the newest one I went in said I have a surge and want the new tsb even provided the number and they did it no questions asked.

I'm an aggressive driver and one of the first mods I did was OVTune. Had my truck for about 6 months and no stalls so far. I can't blame anyone for being upset since it shouldn't happen to anyone in any vehicle. The ECT in this truck really is it's biggest problem and the new flash should be offered without playing these stupid games to match the TSB rules.
